IIRC, Pnictogen has a background in chemistry, but not philosophy nor the humanities (nor psychology, obviously). I'm not sure how old he is, but I get the impression he's fairly old - older than Lou - and I guess it's possible he was out of school before postmodernism really started to dominate everything.

For a dude who compulsively orders things online, Lou is terrible at reading descriptions/measuring himself. Maybe he likes the process of returns--it gives him more bang for his buck than just unwrapping--or maybe he can't pause to see what a given brand's 5XL is in inches or CM.

Off-topic, but if you're measuring yourself or other humans a lot, one of those "body measuring tapes" is worth the few bucks for convenience.

It's retractable like a construction measuring tape, and the nub fits into the socket so it cinches around you; makes it way less fiddly to get a waist or upper arm, etc.

Also I am an idiot and find it easier to measure myself in CM than to convert from inches, because what if.

Not to defend his fatness, but the sizing geography matters. A 5XL from a site like Temu is most likely to fit like a US 2/3XL. A lot of Amazon clothes are also sized based on Chinese sizes, so the numbers get high pretty fast while also being misleading.

Honestly, it’s better to ignore the generic sizing descriptors for the actual sizing in inches, especially if you’re looking at women’s clothing. US brands fudge their sizing a LOT, so you can have a range of five different sizes for the same sizing numbers, entirely based on the whims of the brands.
