Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Final Fantasy/Persona inspired FRPG

I think I'm going to drop Maelle. I know she's super strong, but my dumbass brain can't figure out how to make her useful. She's constantly losing stance because she has no AP to use her stance. I tried slotting in Mezzo Forte as a bridge, but then she just gets targeted hate and dies or gets stunned.
She’s mostly good for status effects. The burn effect is very useful later. I guess maybe she needs better Picto’s.

I have been using Maelle as an extreme physical damage beast. The key is getting the weapon from the village that has the passive to put her in virtuoso stance on shield break.

She also steals enemy shields for me. I don’t know how it happens, but it’s pretty nice that she’s hard to kill.

She also gets a sword that gives her virtuose form on turn 1 which is great with stacking pictos that increase base AP while using the skill that keeps you in virtuose form after using it.

I stopped using her in the mid-game as her damage fell off due to mostly being large, single hit attacks. Once you can break the 9,999 damage cap she gets much better.

So far I think this is my favorite song.

I'm pretty partial to the jazzier ones like

Don't usually see that kind of music in games.

I have yet to find the virtuose sword but I did get "Brulerum" which has critical attacks apply burn and she's got a 93% crit. Stack that with some of the free aim ones and the +AP on kill and most fights she can immediately stack burn on everything often killing at least one thing by the time their turn comes around. Stack that with the skill that gives her AP if they're burning and switches her to virtuose and she's shredding through stuff. Bonus on the burn is the picto that gives +crit against burning enemies boosts the crit of the entire party.

Kudos to whoever called this game out in the Elder Scrolls thread. I'd never heard of it beforehand but aside from the performance being not great and a blue screen during the act 1 cinematic (I love Unreal Engine) the game has been fantastic. Probably the first game I can think of in the last ~10 years where I was actually interested in where the story was going.

Maelle eats ALL the shields, can be targeted instead of an ally and you can parry + counter-attack in Virtuoso for insane damage and remember, using Basic Attack switches Offensive stance with Defensive stance and vice-versa.
Mezzo is meh, just feed her AP consumables and there's a skill (6p) that does 3 hit damage, if you're in Virtuoso, keeps you in Virtuoso and it can also Break.
Another thing, speed dictates order (when you're getting attacked) and when you first strike, your order in team takes precedence over speed (in the team menu, remove from party and add party in whatoever order you want your team to do).
Why I'm saying this? Because Maelle going 1st, is pretty good. She can destroy all shield, she can guard entire team or you can deal AoE damage + Defenceless. If you go Maelle > Lune > Gustave, you do AoE damage + Defenceless > Elemental damage > AoE damage and Break.
Outside of bosses, every other encounter ends before they even get a turn, and in the off-chance it doesn't, they're all Broken so they skip the turn.

I have yet to find the virtuose sword
In Gestral Village, there are 2 actually. One from a vendor and one if you do the last fight in the Tournament with Maelle.

Also, this cheeky nigger!

Can anyone explain why half the time I use Gustaves overcharge he says "ah this is weak" and I don't get to do qtes? Am I retarded?

As a bee once said, "ya like jazz?"

Every piece of music in this game has absolutely slapped so far. The more ambient pieces reminds me of both of the Nier games, but there's still a lot of energy and sometimes even a sense of dread in the boss themes and battle tracks.

I hope they eventually release a vinyl for this soundtrack. The pops and cracks of a record player would be the absolute cherry on top for songs like Lumiere.

All of the music in Flying Waters is great, BUT... how about that bass line in Rain from the Ground?

Ever since I really understood how Lune works, she's been carrying the team like a champ.

Using Lighting Dance with high Crit Rate feels ...so good...

The native boss with the shield and cannon Is fucking ass raping me lmao.
Use Free Aim and shoot at his shield. You will notice that after a few shots, he will drop his shield for a few moments, and that is when he will expose his weak spot. Then, you shoot that weak spot, fast, before he recuperates.
Do this will all characters, until you blow his shield away, after which, the fight is easy.

God, some of the bosses get Elden Ring tier retarded with their combo, but it's cool that you can still "brute force" them with good strategies and builds even if you suck at the qte.
My Lune was such a fucking tank that I still got the boss first try just by reviving my DPS every turn before they got one shot again.
I'm loving this game.

Once you learn to watch for the weapon swing and listen for the sound cue, dodging and parrying become a whole lot easier.
And even if you continue sucking balls at QTE, you'll get so many types of defensive pictos (for example, Shell for first 3 turns, or Shell under 50% HP) that you can mitigate a lot of hits.
Or, you can go even crazier and load your team with on death effects (like Burn the enemy or deal damage to enemy on death) and have them die and resurrected again and again, until you beat the bosses by dying a lot. Which is extremely funny.

Honestly, I love that these french niggers looked at the world balance in the dictionary and said "hon hon hon fucke this shite!! Pierre, crank those numbers or no moldy cheese for you!"
It's just fun!
