Ah, "Bully" mutation cats. Just like the bully whippets. A mutation in the Myostatin gene. More common in cows, dogs, particularly whippets, but also seen in cats. Considered an exceptionally rare gene in humans, but has been documented. Unfortunately it can impact the cardiac tissue leading to Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, which has limited treatment in dogs and cats, with better treatments in humans, but still not great. Not usually an issue for cows (since they get turned into burgers anyway). Fortunately HOCM isn't a guarantee. Some people get lucky and get the Myostatin mutation without the HOCM. The known mutants are among the strongest people in the world. The key is to start aerobic training as soon as it is identified (as otherwise, without the improved cardiac tone, you will see extremely poor endurance because the blood supply will be a huge mismatch with the musculature), and continuous monitoring for HOCM.

I had a cat with HOCM from a different mutation. The vet gave him 6 months. But, he lived 3 1/2 years after his HOCM diagnosis, so he beat the expectation by 3 years with scrupulous adherence to his treatment.
