If through some cosmic accident I had to be put into the body of either Johnny or Vitaly, I would choose to be transformed into the giant beetle instead. That said, Johnny is in a far better situation for at least the next two weeks than Vitaly is in, as long as he can keep Hank oiled up. And on top of that, Johnny is going to go to the foreigner's prison, which is probably not as bad as Vitaly's prison which sounds like an absolute hellhole. Like the heat alone there would literally give me heat stroke and kill me. The food is certainly horrifying too. I could see other inmates being intimidated by Vitaly. The Filipinos I've worked with were all really small people and seemed to die young and they were always moaning and groaning about their health problems.
