American companies, for the most part, get their insane valuations off of tech-related things. Most of these tech-related things involve computer chips. American companies are unable to produce chips up to spec without Dutch ASML lithography machines using German Carl Zeiss optics. Both companies have repeatedly refused to sell trade secrets to american companies, for good reasons, and they haven't been reverse-engineered, not for lack of trying. If the EU really wanted to lash out at the american economy, they could do it very quickly that way, among others.
Honeywell is an american company that produces plenty of good chemicals that do everything from keeping your refrigerator running to keeping your brakes functional. Do you think they'd be able to pick up the slack from French companies of equal size like Chemours, Air Liquide and Arkema overnight? You don't hear of them much, because they don't produce shiny toys that you can check out Truth Social and buy MelaniaCoin on, but they are there and make your life livable in ways only the guy overcharging you to fix your HVAC system knows.

Building these takes time - you're supposed to apply the tariffs once they're already up and running. And guess what? Most of the stuff you need to make a factory function are produced in either China or Europe. Enjoy paying a premium you chose to pay, assuming they'll be willing to sell to you anymore in the first place.
