UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Unite hate current labour and like old labour. Plus, in a Union the gays, fags, niggers and trannies have no power over me. Plus, higher wages for contractors.

If you're shop floor and not in a union and don't know employment rights like the dialogue in your favour marvel movie, join a union.
I both love and respect you and you could secretly be one of my IRL friends posting here (except for the Russophilia, that's what is making me think you are not), so I say this with the greatest respect; stop being a nigger and free yourself your slave morality.

If you're on the shop floor and you need a communist to speak for you then you need to man the fuck up, speak for yourself, then get a new job.

I'm not a russophile, I just see through the MIC bullshit that is the Ukraine war.
I work three months a year, at best. I'm well free of the plantation, my nigger.

I would agree, if not for the fact that 99% of the managerial class are socially awkward retards on power trips who are fucking clueless about their job. I like empowering the shop floor to put these useless cunts in their place and take even more pleasure in firing their useless arses. Sorry, manager niggers, I have more power than you.
Join a union, fuck the managers.

more like golden tide amirite?

Back to coving I go.
Littorally shaking RN
(Boom boom! … I’ll show myself out…)

Reform winning would be a good thing. Controlled opposition or not, and I think the top layer may be being turned into that, it shows the electorate is mad.
It’s a shame there’s not a box to tick that of enough people tick it everyone in power gets sent to Yakutsk in January

Aye, just need shaking up and the LABCON stranglehold destroyed, let some new blood in. Be good for people to get some new options, with better outlooks.

Niggel is a cunt but I voooted Reform anyway because it's about sending a message to the local cuckservatards more than anything else really, solid 4 way split between Cs Ls Rs and.. the meme party themselves (Greens) thanks to all the hippy city transplantees so my vooote actuelley counts for something (in terms in of bin collection times at least). The cope on the leaflets was pure "national politics don't matter! back Alan he's a nice guy!", pathetic.
Voooting straight blu would be rewarding woggishness and would be unacceptable, if the torytards wants my type back they've gotta kiss the cock-ring of total chudness (halal slaughter ban is step 1, gotta do something about all those unregulated "schools" next).

Two Jags Prescott did it better.
And in an incredibly justifiable situation.

Regarding Reform I agree that currently they are as stuffed full of the usual suspects as any of the other parties but they do add a bit of chaos to things that is sorely needed and frustrates the string pullers in the background. A lot of money has gone into Labour and their backers expect results, not a slow down because of a party that barely existed the elections cycle before.

Learn your employment rights, you should put more trust in the Easter bunny than a union rep.

I put no faith in the union. I put faith in the fact that managers are clueless cowards who will shit their pants when they find out you're a union member. That, and having the union there means they the managers try super hard to get a gotcha on you, in which they fail, fuck up harder, and give you get out of jail free cards like sweets on halloween.

Anyone who has worked in an 'office politics' environment, knows that the shitecunts flock together and protect themselves from the guy who has come in and made them all look like the useless cunts that they are. They don't like people who can do a competent job.

Just keep everything documented and have a simple understanding of ISO responsibilities to play as your get out of jail cards.

Any work environment is largely made up of people who never left the playground mentality we call 'office politics'.

Edit to sperg, never reduce a manager to the gotcha situation, always give them an out, cornered rat and all that.

Don't worry, I do. I've had to fight many a battle vs bad managers, unfortunately. I've been unlucky.

Not all, I've worked in some good places, but I've been unlucky with managers who were obviously bullied in school and were too fat and dumb for the coppers.

I'll have to disagree here. Despite my online persona, IRL, and especially at work, I'm amicable, friendly, diligent and hard working. I don't involve myself in drama, politics or he said/she said. When someone comes after me, they're trying to swing their dick at what is seen as an easy target. That's bullying behaviour and I give no mercy for it. What if that same manager did it to someone who wasn't as switched on as me? or as clued up? or had a wife and kids and a mortgage, had more to lose and had to accept this tossers demands?
Those managers deserve to lose their jobs.

Anyway, no more blog posting.

Here, the bullshit starts! All of the spinning tonight, first one from Reform in Runcorn saying that they are very optimistic they've won the seat. If that's true, that'd be astonishing to have wiped out that majority.

Most councils will be counting tomorrow (Northumberland appears to be the exception counting tonight), but most of the mayoralties, Runcorn, and most of the council by-elections will be counted and declared overnight.

In that vein, the first result is for a council by-election in Hartlepool, where Reform have gained the ward from Labour on a 36% swing.

Brilliant news, the Throston ward of Hartlepool goes to Reform UK with over half the vote.

North Tyneside also looks good for Nigel as well.

Runcorn & Helsby resulted expected 3am UK (Britbong) time. Strong signals are that Reform UK will have a fifth MP (they would have had six, had Rupert Lowe not left the party) and that Labour might struggle for second (Greens have apparently done well with winning over the pro-EU youngsters, but we'll see what happens - it's all rumour and gossip until the final numbers are in).

Looks like they are getting seat after seat after seat. Seen 5 or so have had a Reform win so far.

From the legendary Professor Sir John Curtice:

'The first county council result of the night, in Northumberland, has been won by Reform with as much as 59% of the vote, gaining the seat from Labour (Reform also won a district council by-election in Hartlepool earlier).

This is a new ward boundary, so we do not know the change since 2021. Even so, this looks like a remarkably successful beginning for Reform tonight.

The ward is in Blyth, which of course in 2019 heralded Boris Johnson's success in that year's general election.

Reform has also won its second and third district council by-election victories.

The party has won a seat in Harlow with 31.9% of the vote, up 23.5 points on 2021. The other is in the Breckland district of Norfolk. With 47.9% of the vote, Reform did not fight this seat in 2023.'

HAHAHA! YES!

Well done George, that's split the Left vote and fucked Labour badly.

Lib Dems finishing below the Independents? What would Cyril Smith think!

Turnout confirmed in Runcorn and Helsby at 46.3% and Greens win Herne Hill and Loughborough Junction (Lambeth By-Election) with 48% of the vote.

One of the wokest areas of London (just up from Dulwich) comprehensively rejecting Labour.

Interestingly, the Tories have won in Northumberland!
