If either of these girls had been born even 5 years earlier they never would have hit their 30s. I'm still not convinced they'll actually live through their 30s, but still, the fact that they've made it this far is unprecedented in human history.

I don't mean to be a dick, but to call surviving long periods of near starvation "unprecedented in human history" is absolutely absurd. We evolved to be really, really good at conserving energy and our metabolism will adapt to use every available fuel source to survive when caloric intake is insufficient. Right up to the end of the 20th century (and probably still today, in some places) famine has always been fairly frequent throughout the course of human history - and yes, at times a lot of people die, but the majority do not. The ones who die off are usually children and the elderly, and most of the deaths aren't from starvation per se, but rapid spread of disease (typhus, dysentery, influenza) that will be more dangerous to starved people prone to dehydration, and with compromised immune systems due to poor nutrition.

Eugenia isn't one skelly among a million in the middle of the Sudan or some shit like that, she is among a generally healthy population with modern sanitation and, as you are correct in pointing out, has access to vitamins, clean water, high-quality nutrient dense food (when she does eat it), and all the health food store bullshit money can buy in current year. I kinda doubt she is on any prescription medication, usually anachans avoid regular doctors' visits as much as possible, but she could take all kinds of OTC crap. If she ever did happen to get norovirus or something that could very well threaten her life, she'd probably go to the ER and spend a few days being hooked up to a glucose drip, given electrolytes and fluids, and stabilised, then discharged with a referral to some ED program she'd rip up and it'd be back to business as usual.

So yeah, actually I agree with 90% of your post and you're absolutely correct, I just felt the need to be an autistic cunt and nitpick the one statement I quoted. We really just lucked out to exist at a time and place where we can all eat like fucking kings for practically nothing, to the point where the sight of a skelly is so rare that it is viscerally disturbing. Her Disney photos are like some avant garde performance art. She should do a series dressed up in concentration camp striped clothing and take photos of herself at Disney.

Honestly, she could be an art world superstar if she announced the past decade was just a dedicated living criticism of online consumerism and western culture. Like Nicado Avacado only visually far more interesting.

Photos of a dying, emaciated woman, with big capped teeth, hair extensions, full war paint draped in luxury goods (or children’s character costumes) striking poses around Disney World would be a massive hit at art galleries. It’s a shame she doesn’t let some interesting photographer spend a few weeks with her to produce a body of work around the bizarre freak show that is her life. It could be at Diane Arbus level of photographic interest and artistic merit. Eugenia accidentally achieves this herself on occasion. It's very unfortunate, but this is mostly caused by a profound, incredible self-hatred. They fully embrace it, for they believe it is what they deserve. They isolate themselves completely, believing they're unlovable.

I am reminded of something I saw screenshotted from reddit - a man's wife was anorexic, though she never let it go this far. After they had a child she got extremely depressed because of the baby weight. He solved it by what would be called "love bombing". It was a very sweet story, but indicative of the type of thinking such women have.

What I'm saying is - if Eugenia had a boyfriend (or, at this age, a husband) who genuinely loved her and gave her a lot of attention that isn't retards and fetishists from the internet, she probably wouldn't be in this sorry state.

Nobody really knows, but it seems to be as old as dirt - at first, associated with some sort of religious mania. Hellenistic period women starving themselves as some sort of show of piety. This continued well into the Christian period - Catherine of Siena literally starved herself to death.

What's very recent is the whole fear of gaining weight thing. Nearly every historical example involves some sort of paranoia about food occurring in men - that it is making them stupid, or something like that. Women instead seemed to only become very restless and anxious for no particular reason. So I think the entire body dysmorphia and fear of weight gain is simply an excuse for some sort of very low level psychosis. It doesn't stem from body image issues, but the other way around. Hence why antipsychotics seem to treat it well.

Lasegue described the symptoms to be very similar to what he saw during a famine - this sort of paradoxical restlessness - which in context makes sense. Tribe has no food -> everyone will become pretty restless and go looking for it constantly. But with anorexics, there is no famine. The brain just decides to send shitty signals and refuse to eat, other part of brain triggers the restlessness automatically.

Very strange, very sad. Every time I see one of them, they look absolutely miserable. They make the infamous Migrant Mother look jolly in comparison, always looking like they're one tiny inconvenience away from having a full blown breakdown and killing themselves (well, I guess they're already doing that). Which I guess explains why tend to disappear in their 20s - people are hard-wired to want to help miserable-looking young women. They find a boyfriend who takes care of them and helps them recover (though the issue never truly disappears - I know a case of a woman in her 80s dying of cancer being happy it's the skinniest she's ever been). Only exceptionally unlucky ones like Eugenia or the Lich manage to reach their 30s like this. Unfortunately, this also just forwards the retard genes to the next generation.

Anorexia is one of the hardest mental illnesses to treat. The reason a lot of women in their twenties with anorexia disappears is because they die. Its the mental disorder with highest mortality rate amongst women and they die either by medical complications or suicide.

goal form and wanted to document that achievement & bask in it. A bit more artistic pro-ana content but still pro-ana all the same. Sad stuff but it felt weird to see it praised so much when she also was literally killing herself on camera. (Like Eugenia but this was Art.)

To stay on topic of Eugenia, I haven't kept up with her at least in the last 4-ish years and guess you could add me to the "surprised how bad she looks now" camp. (That photographer died at 33 so Eugenia might still have a few Disney trips left at least.)

Sometimes I think 'Art' nowadays gets used as a blanket cover and to give a pass to stuff that would have rightly been condemned. There's a point where it isn't 'art' anymore, but a way to show off gross stuff that would never normally see the light of day or be thought of as a good idea.

To me she actually looked skinnier but then again, we don't really see Eugenia wearing as little clothes anymore (or without filters) so idk. They have different face shape too, so maybe Eugenia's wider jaw keeps her face from looking quite as sunken... Hard to tell tho
