It’s the kind of assertion that only makes sense to an emotionally immature mind. I dare say that if you’ve never been in a relationship, and if you’re also permanently horny, the idea of a monogamous relationship does sound quite oppressive.

Based on what I see online, there are three flavours of polycule.

1. The most conventional one, with at least one woman and several men. All parties will be deeply unattractive. They will go on about how hot they all are and will probably talk about “cuddle puddles.” Semi-anonymous media posts will reveal deep-seated jealousy and resentment. For all their talk of freedom, there will be a ton of rules, which will be weaponised against members of the polycule.

2. The troon polycule. This literally always consists of fat prison-gay autists pretending to be lesbians. Invariably there will be at least one rape allegation, though oddly enough the police will never be called.

3. Just a cult. Take a sub/dom thing and multiply it.

It’s worse than that. Sexes are defined by developing along one of two body plans, each tailored to creating one of two gametes: a large stationary gamete and a small motile gamete. Even if people with DSDs were born at a much more regular rate, there will never be a “third gamete” and humans will never be able to change sex. Troons love to think they have a “gotcha” argument with this, but people with DSDs suffer, and I would wager they would prefer to not have been born with DSDs. Maybe their argument would sway someone unsuspecting who has never thought any of this through, but it’s such dishonesty. There is no third sex, so their argument is not tied to reality.
