Kingdom Hearts is NOT a defensive game. You have some defensive abilities in your kit, but Kingdom Hearts is a game that rewards high speed and high aggression. Maybe on lower difficulties you can play more defensively, but Critical Mode was specifically tailored to increase the speed of gameplay-- both you and the enemy deal more damage, so you're encouraged to be fast, constantly moving, and taking out enemies before they can take you out. Playing defensively is actually hobbling yourself.

Or pretend that actually the game is supposed to be hard, it's super technical guys, you need a LOT of skill to get your ass handed to you by the bosses even after you cheat your way to the best equipment.

KH is not high skill (although it has a high skill ceiling), it's not difficult (although the supervbosses demand a greater understanding of the combat system than a casual player will have). As KH sperg (as in I own the original PS2 releases and the rereleases and has played the original titles and spin offs) I can tell you just how wrong Lily is now. Once that video drops… oh it’ll be a fun day for me. But the thing is, for a simple as the game is, if you know what you’re doing you can do insane stuff. But it still pales in comparison to what Dark Souls players can do once they master the mechanics

See here's the thing, it doesn't matter how mechanically deep either one is because they aren't competing with each other. They're in completely separate genres they just happen to overlap because they have flashy bosses and dodging. The experience KH wants the player to have is completely different from the experience dark souls wants.

Lily is just bitter that "soulslikes" are really popular right now, and since she doesn't understand their appeal, she assumes everyone who likes them just hasn't played kingdom hearts, which she's used to and she finds fun. She's projecting her insecure bias onto souls fans, who couldn't give a rip about Kingdom hearts.

Basically she's biased, which wouldn't be a problem if she just said "it's not for me" and not "Souls players are pissbabies that can't appreciate my niche thing!!!!1"

KH Spreg here too. Agree, pro-KH players are a breed of their own since they are the top of the food chain in terms of how much they pull off. If you want to know how much you can get away with if your understanding of the game is high, watch them, and study them. Peet simply is a terrible goddamn player that can't wrap around the games they play because they are so fucking useless that cheating is the only way they can be good at.

This is really the big thing. She's trying to conflate these two games based on the most shallow aspects of their mechanics just so she can feel superior about liking Kingdom Hearts and not liking Dark Souls.

As I said before, I think it's just part of her self-made martyr complex. Since there's more discussion about Soulslike games than there is about Kingdom Hearts in the normie circles, this must mean that nobody likes Kingdom Hearts, and that's because people are not only wrong but also probably fascists.

I know she's always liked KH but I suspect that part of this also got tuned up when KH3 came out and it was met with a resounding "uhh?!?" from a fanbase that had been starved of content for seven years. I know there are people out there who really like KH3 but it looks like the broad response trends toward the negative-- I see a LOT of people who have basically written off the series after KH3 dropped the ball so hard with its villain. But of course Lily came forward saying "You guys just don't GET Kingdom Hearts, it's super simple, it's just about a smol bean of a boy beating up a bad guy."

I can't even be upset about her bad takes anymore. Now that I realize how profound her ignorance is, it wraps right back around to pure comedy.

Probably should've guessed that with how incompetent she is with something as simple as Pokemon (I mean, Pokemon is actually hella complex under the hood, but her not realizing that the Psychic-type with tissue paper defenses gets shredded by super effective physical attacks is gold), but to realize the actual depths of her stupidity on this is just... a thing of beauty, really.

Forgive me for missing the announcement (or maybe misunderstanding an earlier post) but what's the actual KH video about? Raw gameplay comparisons and why it's totally the first Soulslike and better than Dark Souls? Kind of old news but that's going to very funny to see her try and explain Kingdom Hearts mechanically, if she ever gets around it it instead of just shitting on games she thinks people shouldn't like. I unironically want to see a video of her explaining what she enjoys about KH's story.

This is honestly a major strength of Kingdom Hearts, especially 2. It's very easy to pick up and play, so if you just want a fun romp through some Disney nostalgia you're covered, but you can also make it harder and really engage with the system and do some awesome things with it.

And it's actually not all that hard to execute, you just have to be willing to learn. I really enjoyed my first go through KH2 back when it released, but I did a replay some years back after having watched a few speedruns in the interim and it was a whole new experience with that knowledge in my back pocket. I'll make fun of KH until the cows come home but 2 is still just a delight to play.

How does somebody have such narrow interests that there's only like 5 things they can use as frame of reference to critique other things? By his logic, the original Super Mario Brothers is a soulslike because in order to defeat Bowser, you need to study his patterns and make sure you time your jumps between hammer throws, or that you're running underneath him when he jumps up.
