Its pretty much impossible to divine contract details, so unless there's a leak, its hard to say. I imagine it's a total writeoff for what they put into it up to this point, but they have no obligation to finance upcoming costs. So, they paid the deposit for the Arena, that's gone. They paid the promoter for services up to that point, gone. But the arena contract likely has full payment due within X days of the event occuring, and they're not gonna have to cover any shortfall. Same for any promised but yet unpaid debts. In return, they're completely cut out of the profits, if any, and are probably indemnified from any internal lawsuits regarding their behavior causing the event to fail.

At the end of the day, a straight simple "Walk out now and we won't hurt your further" kind of deal. They're probably down fifty to a hundred thousand dollars, and are likely blacklisted in sporting, period.

It could be radically different, but its the most plausible.
