Happy April 12th Everyone! And while the news of NASA defunding it's telescopes might be sad for people into space, let's hope the new Sino-American Cold War can start a new space race. Here are some pictures from a Soviet book called "Son of Russia" made for the 20th anniversary of Gagarin's first flight into the void:
I like the ones where they make the enemy accidentally based. A couple of Civil War ones from Yankee propaganda rag newspaper Harper's Weekly, where Confederates are portrayed as savages.
"Specimens of Secesh Industry" showing Southerners using Yankee bones that are straight up African hoodoo tier. Classic Southern ingenuity.
"Examples of Southern Chivalry: Dedicated to Jeff Davis", illustrated by Thomas Nast. Yankee bones make another appearance, alongside a Confederate holding a bowie knife and a Yanks head, some redskins doing redskin shit, and my favorite, "Southern women gloating over dead Union soldiers". Cute choice on the artists part to make all the Rebel men vaguely dysgenic, while the Yankee men have more traditionally handsome features.
It was actually my area of study for my MA, particularly the Francophone countries. The whole place got fucked, but the French and Belgians absolutely fucking raw-dogged half a continent (especially the Belgians, I mean goddamn). Several of these are Soviet or European in origin, but they all have a really unique style to them that I personally love.
now it's 2025 and DPRK women still look friendly and wholesome while ROK's women (and men) all compete to see who can get the most surgery to look like Odo from DS9
