Trump tweets out shower thoughts and everyone goes ballistic, generating white noise and spending energy that could have been used for actual attacks on his policies. every time

he can't keep getting away with it
I'll say this on Alcatraz given my background: it would need a structural check given its age. But given it's made of stone and brick, it's likely solid. Up to code? Lol. This would be like bringing the Iowas back online. Extremely expensive. But possible. It depends how much Trump gives a fuck.

What sort of stimulus can they even realistically pursue? Consumption is difficult as hell to drive in an economy that has effectively turned significant portions of its domestic workforce into a second class with the migrant worker and municipal registry crap, those people will attempt to invest it to get out of their second class status, they're not gonna start buying temu crap en mass. Pumping money into the consumer side will just hit the already fucked property market, or outflow as people try to buy property domestically or abroad. Pumping it into the producer side won't help because there's not a lower effective cost of product they can subsidize that'll restore demand, more attempted outflow will only increase tariffs. And pumping those goods into the domestic market is what's fucking them in the first place.

This is a genuine question, because I've not seen a situation like this before and I'm not sure what they can do about it.
The problem, if you ditch abstraction and look at reality for a second, is that a shit ton of Chinese people have made depressed wages to produce shit to sell overseas, and so if you take that away, not a lot of people have money to buy shit.

China needs an actual middle class to absorb all this shit. They don't have nearly enough.

Of course he can - if Trump farted in public, the above named 'usual suspects' would report on it for days.

THEY need Trump more than HE needs them; without Trump doing something, they don't sell and they don't make a profit.

You're going to need a lot of money to do that. The electrical systems alone are going to be a nightmare. All the wiring runs through rock. And it needs overhaul, not just for safety, but to handle increased load from cameras, computers, all this modern shit that didn't exist 100+ years ago.

You should see some of the Victorian-era HMP's here in Blighty!

It'll take a lot to get Alcatraz back up to scratch, but private investment peoples/high rollers might be interested - especially Republican ones.

Feel bad for the chinks.

Meanwhile, Taiwan, their identical chink brothers, are enjoying a far greater prosperity and technological advancement.

Communism is the greatest blight to humanity.
7.(in process) Corrupt judical system.

I welcome trump dynasty.

alcatraz will be powered by the souls of illegal immigrants

can anyone explain to me why we need tariffs on foreign movies? Hollywood is dying not because of cheap foreign movies but because of its own shitty practices.

If it was about Chinese movie companies just ban Chinese owned film companies from operating and buying US entertainment companies

it'd be nice if people were this budget conscious with all government projects

It could certainly be done. I don't even think it would be a bad investment long term. It's certainly a shorter flight than shipping off criminals to GITMO, the current "Abandon all hope" prison the US has. It just would be more than flipping on the light switch and dusting off the jail cells. Lots of capital would be required to make it happen. Trump would need to sell it hard.

It’s foreign production of movies, not foreign movies themselves. The goal is to make Hollywood film their movies in the US again instead of in poor countries like Canada and Eastern Europe.

Why the fuck would you do ANY of this and not just build a new facility instead? It's some boomer shit to throw 10's of millions at this pile of rubble just for the vibes. It's not like the idea of going to a really shitty prison vs a plain shitty one stops crime. Otherwise all those shitholes on the east coast would be effective in that manner.

They were never going to have one. This is the weirdest western prescription..

Like in China, unless you’re some party functionary, you don’t buy a house, you buy an apartment. Obviously that complicates ownership, but don’t worry, nobody ever even pretended ownership was on the table. “Buying” means something like a 70 year lease for a spot in a building that’s subject to eminent domain and not built well enough to last 70 years anyways. Also forget about equity, you can’t borrow against it. No re-leveraging assets

And they really can't survive without doing the selling of shit overseas. They're fatally dependent on energy imports, if they kill their export market by raising up their domestic market, then the 'Chinese economic miracle' will collapse. In the long term, they have domestic reserves they could develop, and could theoretically do the same coal to gas conversions that much of the western world undertook. Problem is, you can't really develop energy resources very fast when you're in a massive energy crisis, and you don't have much of a chance for 'long term' planning when your under massive unrest from what would be a return to third world status for even the first tier cities.

They'd have to more or less undergo another great leap forward, and that's going to be horrific.

I loathe hollywood, but Medias under the same corrupting pressures as most other industry. Huge swathes of the work outside the writing room gets exported these days. Huge portions of VFX works makes its way up here to Canada, Animation work gets exported to South Korea or even Best Korea, most of what's left in the US is writing, principle filming, and piecing together the imported slop at the end. That exported main labor is where normal people tend to find their work in the industry.

Personally I could care less about media tariffs because you can't tariff a torrent, so its all water under the bridge here.

I'm still a Republican lol. I'm sure he could find the Billions from the Doge savings. It still is a tall order.

Can you find another island surrounded by freezing water in US control? It's still cheaper to modernize than start fresh

If a new facility can be built, then great, but how long will that take to build?

Basically china was already living a dystopia long before us.
