UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Cheating and still losing? They’re turning into the Dwain Chambers of politics.
It's a hefty factor in why I find them losing chunks of Lancashire to Reform more than deserved. Losing that seat made little major difference to them at the time but despite that they could not even muster a half-hearted critique of one of their own pulling a move like that. If they want to cheat their way to victory and force the tax-payer to foot the bill to oust them they deserve as big a kick to the backside as possible.

The biggest political cheat that I can recall is when Carmarthen allegedly voted 'YES' for a Welsh Parliament in 1997 despite the numbers being sketchy.

The powers-that-be wanted a Welsh Parliament and it's only thanks to a dodgy vote (the last place to declare) that Wales got the Senedd Shitshow.

You and @FedPostalService are spot on with the comments about Labour, and they deserve the hatred and wrath of the people.

To big to rig. What’s going to happen now is they are going to to cheat harder.

Labour true believers and union mongs are the worst people on this earth. It’s their entire personality and they don’t believe anything they do is wrong.

I think the Tories were quiet on postal vote fraud and other shannanigans hoping they’d get the muzzies one day when Labour kept heading more progressive and it is destroying politics.

I know too many of these people but they can break the conditioning: Milk-Snatcher has been downstairs long enough some of the oldies are actually letting it go and finally admitting to having been voooting blu since 2016. The next generation of oldsters will have new and exciting prejudices and it'll all be about the Bliaring of Tony which shall only empower this trend.
Anybody interested in running a smokehouse in Colonsay, Inner Hebredies, Scotland?

Owner's giving it away for nothing.
This is some remake of The Wicker Man shit isn't it.

While we're talking about Labour fudging results let's not forget that a position they lost January last year they held onto by simply reading out the Labour candidate as the winner. This had to go all the way to court to resolve and they still tried shenanigans at the eleventh hour.

Remember that you not matter how much you hate Labour supporters/party members, you don't hate them enough.

Threatening to punch one in the mouth was one of the best things I ever did and by god I'll do it again.

Are a handful of issues Labour+Tories both avoid as they want to keep it a 2 party system. Exposing widespread postal vote fraud would likely mean electoral commission have to ban/dissolve the Labour party. Even if it became Lib Dems+Tories as the 2 party system as soon as Lib Dems get in power they remove first past the post and introduce proportional representation and the whole game changes.

Some complete unknown Reform candidate won in my area with hardly any campaigning or effort put in. No policy, no quantifiable ways of measuring or actually undertaking real change in the running of a council, no stated community improvements, no experience. Just bluster and retweeted Farage guff.

Local elections are typically low turnout in my area and I've met countless people that didn't vote because "pointless, innit mate", which is strange because the people you aren't voting for who get in are the shortest distance to fucking you over and also the ones managing the area where you live, work and raise your kids.

It's going to be a complete shitshow.

Lots of Labour candidates won in the last elections by just standing with a poster that said "change" or even just depending on a tactical voting website displaying them as the person to vote for, so watching politics in general reduced to what rosette they have on isn't much of a surprise. I hope it's fixed in future elections but that weird sterilization of candidates social media and a support for that being the best social media strategy seems to be going nowhere.

People also forget that many local councils are almost autonomous with the council officers/civil servants having as much influence on policy as the councillors. Sure they are going to have a handful of policy changes but the idea everyone is instantly fucked as tho the person elected has to personally tell the binman to collect from your house each week or is so involved with the local school they are marking your kids homework is silly.

Will be interesting to see how the government interact with them if they block planning permission for huge solar farms or Labour developer mates new builds. If they start using/abusing the rarely used powers to override local councillors refusing permission then it will probably increase Reform support even further.

That article is hilariously written. Very dry
Denies murder
-on film having sex with them
-on film killing one of them
-google search full of ‘how do I kill these guys/ what’s their house worth/‘
-takes suitcase with bodies into train
-caught with a suitcase dripping blood about to chuck it off Clifton suspension bridge
Id say that’s fairly cut and dried but this is the universe of clowns so let’s see what the court decides.
He was a good boi who dindu nuffin because he was driven to it by Britain's inherent racism, so everyone else needs to do better to avoid a repeat.

I'm so horny.
Oh hey, you got rid of the cat gif PFP. RIP

Weirdly quiet in terms of politics today, nothing has been happening at all besides the new Reform MP getting sworn in.

Does anyone know how the councils are re-opened? I'd imagine it wouldn't be too long after the elections.

Labour is considering restrictions on visa applications for Pakistan, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka - although this might be slightly ineffective considering the upcoming trade deal with India.

"Our upcoming Immigration White Paper will set out a comprehensive plan to restore order to our broken immigration system."

Wasn't there going to be a release of crime statistics by nationality at some point? Is that still in the works?

Under the new trade deal any Indian immigrants here for fewer than 3 years won't have to pay any national insurance. So they'll be making more money than most people for the same work, whilst also benefiting from the things that NI pays for. At least Labour doing that shows that that they're starting to see the public's attitude towards immigrants as a whole. Not enough to stop them coming in, but still.

We might not see those stats released with any fanfare, but they're meant to be released sometime this month, if they're released at all. Most of the stats I'm finding about crime and nationality come from FOIs pressed for by certain MPs, such as Lowe.

If I ever became an MP somehow, I'd probably just spend my days taking on questions from the public and forwarding them onward to relevant departments then posting the answers online. Lowe's inquiry has sent off 7'500 of them so we'll see what comes out.

Sir, this is a greggs.
...S...s...Sir???! SIR?!?!?! I'M A WOMAN!!!!

FUCK YOU REEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

PREPARE FOR KEIR STARMAR TO ANALLY FUCK YOU CUNT!

I was commuting back home from London and a tranny sat next to me, she looked so beautiful, big tits, plastic surge face, fresh hair, etc,.

He opened his mouth... it went downhill from there, I guess I also shouldn't use thameslink wifi to go onto kiwi farms...

I am beyond angry, and I am a pretty relaxed person, but this "deal" with India is a death warrant. In a country where it is increasingly difficult to find a job, it is going to be impossible. Indians will take over management more than they do now and fester this country. Indians are trash, unintelligent, and depraved. Their culture is disgusting.

Gratz we will become Canada and Starmer you dumb faggot this will make immigration worse because THERE IS NO FUCKING CAP! You fucking mongoloid.

I went to my local city and I am in a heavily white area well was and I encountered so many fucking Indians. It was a disgusting and nauseating experience, topped by the fact that none of them are even nice to look at. They all have that shit skin tone which is fitting.

Apologies for my tirade. Anyone who has worked with Indians before knows how disgusting and ineffective they are. What is funnier they may have given Reform and the Conservatives the Muslim vote because they despise the Indians, which is hilarious.

edit - forgot to add prepare to hear SAARRR, SAARRRR PLEASE NO REDEEM more.
