I agree & you managed to articulate it way better than me. i think this is accurate. they have a weird dynamic where i think ian is on board but a lot of the actual rhetoric is coming from/being filtered by anisa. how he acted last night without her convinced me.

I think there's merit to that idea. I think Ian has grown resentful of Ethan over the years. If you think about the paths they both took, they were largely similar but one ended up successful and the other has largely failed. Ethan's pivot has him hosting a widely successful podcast while Ian has nothing. I have to think that over time Ian feels like he's done everything right and unlike Ethan has nothing to show for it.

Then over the years you see how Ian could take Ethan's help as Ethan "big-brother"ing Ian by trying to help him out. Help that Ian might feel is patronizing and makes it seem like he can't stand on his own two feet. All his success over the years since his 'troll's remorse' episode has come as part of Ethan helping him out.

He probably feels like he's in Ethan's shadow and like his bitch. Hence why he felt it so necessary to betray Ethan to show that he could stand on his own two feet without Ethan. To be a redditor for a second, it's like in Akira when Tetsuo grows resentful of Kaneda for always having him bail him out. That's Ian.

If that happens to be the case he probably resents the entire cancer crew too. Perhaps he makes a content cop on them if he gets desperate enough. Would be the funniest, most pathetic scenario possible.

I think this is pretty spot on, and I would say the main thing Ian needs to get through his skull is that he just needed to fucking make something.

Say what you want about how shitty Ethan's podcasting has been, it's a least SOMETHING he's doing. It keeps him relevant and gives whatever fans he has left something. After peaking with the rice gum content cop in 2017, Ian just got extremely lazy with making videos of any kind. (i personally think he was hoping to cash out and quit the internet and do other things but Anus wanted more fame. Maybe that's me coping though).

He did save the squirrels shit and a few idubbbz complains videos but he gave up all his cash cows: Bad unboxing, content cop, and kickstarter crap. That would be risky on its own but he didn't really replace it with anything. He had a brief second wind with the documentary approach, Full Force was actually great despite the manipulative nature of it, and I think Ian wrapped it up in a respectable way. If he had gone all in on that it could have been great but you need to get more than one per year. I'm an editor and those shouldn't take that long to edit. 4 per year would be possible and two per year would be more than fair.

Point is Ian not having the same success as Ethan isn't because he didn't go woke far enough, or soon enough, it's because Ian didn't really do anything while Ethan regularly updated his shitty podcast.
