Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

you did it korea! you caught up to every other country in the 1890s! Wait until they figure out the wireless telegraph maybe then they can communicate with their brothers to the south.
Meh, Id rather live in a city that looks like those than in a South Korean cyberpunk dystopia which is the 24/7 neon lit Seoul. The society is still shit, and I hope Im wrong about our downfall and that we can moderate the extreme amount of jobs that will be lost due to AI and thus the total fall of consumer power somehow.

At least in the South, I know that I can call the president fat (if I can figure out who the current president is, anyway) and not risk a gulag stay. That counts for a lot.

Also, try finding some pics from outside of downtown Pyongyang.

Nooo if I do that destroys my narrative indefinitely!

North Korea’s involvement in this war is astounding. How is the globe just okay with it?

My guess is it's a combination of them not really doing that much in the grand scheme of things plus it being an opportunity to see just how capable their forces and hardware are in a shooting war, even though I suspect they're not sending their best. Plus I doubt the South really minds that much that some of the North's men and hardware are being diverted away from the border.

I agree with your post and would always pick South Korea over North Korea if that isnt obvious. Id just want to live in a city like one of the *three* cities I showed pictures of rather than a super metropol like Seoul even if there are quieter places there. Meaning progress isnt always better.

edit: Put in a thread tax but its already posted :( I'll owe you boys one.

There's also the fact of, what exactly are we going to do about it. NK is already about as sanctioned and cut off from the international community as it's possible to get.

I don't think that the Norks have shown anything astounding (yet).
You've only have to look at their beaches full of artillery propaganda videos that they have a lot of guns and so probably shells.
They have been selling weapons and munitions to third world countries for decades and several shipments of Nork weapons have been intercepted. So we knew they had a lot of artilery and they are willing to sell their weapons despite arms embargos.
The Norks have also been hiring out their workers as basically slave labour for years as well.
It is certainly an escalation of what they have already been doing. But it isn't anything new.
That brings me as how the world is "okay" with this.
The third world doesn't care and the countries that do care have already done pretty much everything they can do short of bombing them. And that would trigger retaliation against S. Korea on a scale that simply doesn't make it worth it.
the Astonishing part is just how little grip China had on them or how they don't mind the Norks getting in so close with the russians. Now I douth the Chinese could make them stop even if they wanted to. The Nirks have pretty much gotten their wishlist from russia. Cash, bullion, techtransfer, help in sanctions busting, energy ect.
The Nork are unironicaly the ones winning this war.
They where already so heavily sanctioned that they could eascalate and no one could do anything about it since there simply wheren't any more scantions you could place on them. And in return for escalating they can get all lot of the stuff sanctions where maent to keep form them.

it being an opportunity to see just how capable their forces and hardware are in a shooting war, even though I suspect they're not sending their best.
The Norks have shelled some S. Korean islands.
From what open source info there is on those shellings it didn't hint at their guns and/or shells being all that great.
they may not be sending their best but I'd doubth their best being all that much better. Most of their artilery park is still early cold war stuff. Some of their more heavy guns have been sold to russia and from the little I can find about their contribution to the war I can't find any glowing revieuws.
As for the shells they may be getting rid of their oldest / worst conditon ones first. But from what we have seen the problem isn't that they are old or that they have some readily visable defect. But all that their production standards are pretty shit with inconsistent powder charges, weight ect. So unless they have a line crancking out shells that are shit just so they can have some shit shells to sell I think it's a decent indication as to the quality of the rest of their shells.
But I don't think the Norks mind that their artilery isn't all that great. Again a large part of why they have so much of it so they can shell S. Korea if they where to be attacked. You don't have to be very accurate when your goal is to flatten, villages/towns/cities, you just need a lot of it.
Their goal isn't to stop whomever is attacking them. IF they where to be attacked that would involved the US and they know damn well they can't defeat the US. It's just to be able to inflict so much death and destruction on the South that it simply isn't worth attacking them.

Now hold on. Everyone is overlooking a key advantage North Korea has:
When you are banging a Nork Broad, you know for a fact she'll swallow.

Semi-related: Orange smoke rises from West Minster, UK has struck the first trade deal with Trump.

Trump keeps 10% tariffs on UK but cuts taxes on British autos, steel and aluminum with trade deal

This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

tl;dr: US tarriffs on British goods go down to 10% for most goods. 100,000 automobiles are exempt, Steel & Aluminum exempt. Britain agrees to import more beef, a mix of lower tariffs on US imports, and make it easier for US imports to pass through customs (whatever the fuck that means).

This is good news for Britain's last remaining steel furnaces that are trying to be shut down by their Chinese owners but prevented by the government due to national security concerns. This will be important if the funds for British rearmament materialize.

Kyiv Independent notes JD Vance saying the US will walk if Russia wastes their time, following on from Trump noting that Russia was doing that. At least the Trump Administration is noting Russian bad faith and hate of honest dealing.

As other people have pointed out, not much can really be done about it. All the sanctions that can be placed are placed. There's no pressure the rest of the world can put on them aside from maybe stopping each and every DPRK flagged cargo ship on it's way to the middle east and boarding it to check for contraband which would just escalate tensions more instead of punishing them in a way that doesn't lead to more missile tests or incidents with it's neighbors. North Korea is in a perpetual state of suffering and they're fine with that because Kim gets his food. It's not feasible but the only way you can really hurt them is threatening to touch China even more harshly if they don't stop dealing with them behind closed doors but who will know anyways. There's also the fact that sending troops into another nation's warzone is something of a gray area. As far as we can tell the DPRK is not supplying these troops with equipment, food or any other necessity. That falls on Russia and as such it's much more towards the "foreign volunteer" category than the "North Korea is actively fighting on the Ukraine front" category. It's hard to categorize, even harder to punish and so most nations likely just see it as a drop in the bucket on North Korean no-nos.

The Chinese have plenty of grip and getting close to Russia is probably okay with them. China and Russia agree far more than they disagree and they feel comfortable with the Norks trading arms with Russia. China currently has trade with North Korea and most of the DRPKs only foreign companies are Chinese owned or sponsored. The world's factory is China and China's sweat shop is the DPRK. North Korea trades with China. China buys their coal and allows private tech and machinery ventures do collaberations in Korea. If they were really bothered by the DPRK being friends with Russia, they would curtail that. Turn away Nork ships in CCP ports and stop private and state business ventures, but they don't. As it stands the DPRK, Chinese and Russians are closer than ever financially and politically. Shenyang recently sent them machine tools which helping boost production for CCP companies using Nork labor. Chinese seafood companies using Nork labor. Factories set up on the border to finish items before export to China and so on. Now, the North does want to stop being so reliant on Beijing yes but as it stands, China still brings a lot of revenue into the nation and likely enjoy plenty of control. Anything that screws with the west is okay with China.

Hungarian spies were caught in Ukraine just now.

Original source / Source 2

Hungary's foreign minister has already reacted by de facto admitting it. He said 'Proof? Without further proof we need to treat such statements carefully'.

I'd imagine the sensible thing would be to deny if you weren't affiliated with the operation. (Can't find the article right now from years ago, but I distinctly remember the last (?) ex-Head of Intelligence in Hungary claiming something along the lines of 'Hungarian intelligence is ineffective and dysfunctional because it's forced to run political errands 24/7')

NATO intelligence operating in Ukraine isn't an insane thought, but the nature of these questions apparently proves that NATO completely sidelined Hungary and refuses to share intelligence with them, likely out of fear of Orban and co. relaying it to Russia.

Funnily enough, this is the second day in a row that's a devastating blunder to the Hungarian ruling party's narrative, yesterday the minister of defense had a recording leaked that talked about needing to switch into 'war-mode', which wouldn't sound outrageous if you know nothing about Hungarian politics bullshit and just assumed he means modernizing the army or whatever, but it basically goes against their entire propaganda house of cards built on 'everyone else [western europe and everyone else pro-ukraine] wants war as opposed to peace, apart from us'.

Also fresh out of the oven: Orban says the previous chief of general staff in the Hungarian army, Ruszin Szendi Romulusz 'had to go' because he was way too 'Ukraine-friendly'

The silver lining: they are guaranteed to lose in the next election at this point in 2026, every news like this is basically worth 2-3% to the biggest opposition party which has already overtaken them in the polls.

It'll have to do what with no hohol drones paying a courtesy visit to the commie jamboree and hootenanny in Moscow.

If those spies are Ukrainian, they should be sentenced to death with only a high value trade to save them. I suppose a trade is what'll happen.

Hungary's foreign minister responded by 'expelling' two alleged Ukrainian spies identified working as a part of a diplomatic mission in Hungary.

Apparently this is fairly common in diplomacy, responding in kind once your own spies are revealed, although I wouldn't be surprised looking at prior incompetency of Hungarian intelligence and state in general if they just pointed at two random diplomats and accused them of being spies before telling them to fuck off.

Either way, these guys had it easy, they get to just walk away, the spies caught in Ukraine in the morning according to most articles were sentenced to life in prison and confiscation of all property for charge of treason. It's another reason why it seems like this is just diplomatic masturbation and oneupmanship by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and not actual spies caught with state secrets.

Where they caught attending a gay orgy by chance?
Still to this day the man claims it wasn't a gay orgy because one woman attended, check mate libtards. :smug:

I think the real story is funnier. Apparently they were ethnic Hungarian, one of them a woman, the other one a conscript who got recruited by some handler in 2021 as a sleeper agent in exchange for money and hungarian citizenship. They were activated recently and a significant part of their job was to find out how cool the local (Transcarpathian) populace would be with Hungary coming in to de facto annex Transcarpathia in case of an eventual complete loss of territory, alongside the number and position of military/law enforcement personnel and equipment. They were also really interested in what kind of military equipment you can buy on the Ukrainian arms black market.

Everyone spies on everyone else. There was an Obama level scandal (MAybe out of the Snowden leaks? I forget) about the US spying on germany and initial response from Germany was "And? So? Our spies in Washington knew all about it" until it caught traction and they had to make a front about being offended so their Russian controllers wouldn't think they were controlled by the US.

More importantly, as you point out, its Hungarian spies. They have their own SACRED HUNGARIAN CLAY issues with Ukraine, plus Orban continuing to let Russia keep his country afloat. Which not only means they probably weren't working on a NATO-sanctioned mission.

I'm assuming regulation/inspection stuff, like loosening them a bit or even giving the USA priority for clearance and entry over other nations.
Yes. I think that's the jist. When i say "Whatever the fuck that means" I mean 'whatever exactly, specifically the fuck that means because that covers an incredible amount of territory'.
It might mean that customs can be certified on the US side, it might mean better integration with UK customs systems so things are presorted and go through faster, it might just mean US goods priority. It sounds like the specifics are still in negotiations.

Best Korea is also effectively China's mexico. Nork workers are sent to china to work in the timber and coal mining industries because if they die no questions are asked. They also get sent to effective slavery in some of the chinese food & retail outlets, their wages confiscated by the Nork state. People are fighting for these postings however because you still get worked tot the bone in Norkland, but at least in foreign service you got to eat and the lights worked.

I didn't realize Tucker was Hungarian.

Oh jesus it really is Sacred Hungarian Clay issues.
