As @I HATE THE ANTICHRIST! explained, the dislike number isn't the actual number of dislikes, it's calculated based on the ratio of dislikes to likes that extension users gave.



If a bunch of RYD likes come in, it can lower the number of dislikes displayed.

A little math, if a video has
a = # of likes
b = # of likes from extension users
c = # of dislikes from extension users
Then you get n additional likes from extension users, the dislikes will go down with the equation (this all assumes that non non-RYD ratings are coming in)

a * c / b - (a + n) * c / (b + n) =
a * c / b - a * c / (b + n) - n * c / (b + n) =
(b + n) * a * c / (b * (b + n)) - b * a * c / (b * (b + n)) - n * c / (b + n) =
a * c * n / (b * (b + n)) - b * c * n / (b * (b + n)) =

(a - b) * c * n / (b * (b + n))​

Conversely, if it gets n additional dislikes, the dislikes will go up by

a * (c + n) / b - a * c / b =

a * n / b​

So, if you have x additional likes in the extension and y additional dislikes in the extension, the total change will be

(a + x) * y / (b + x) - (a - b) * c * x / (b * (b + x)) =
(a + x) * b * y / (b * (b + x)) - (a - b) * c * x / (b * (b + x)) =

((a + x) * b * y - (a - b) * c * x) / (b * (b + x))​

From this we can easily see that as long as that number is negative, the number of dislikes shown will go down even if there were, objectively speaking, the number increased (even purely from the extension's perspective). In other words, the dislikes decrease as long as the following condition is met.

(a - b) * c * x > (a + x) * b * y​

If x > 0 and y = 0 then it's always true. Conversely, if x = 0 then it's always false. If we assume that some nonzero number of likes and dislikes came into the extension, then we can do some algebra to get

(a - b) * c * x > (a + x) * b * y

c / b * x / y > (a + x) / (a - b)​

In (somewhat) plain English, the left side of the inequality is ratio the (original) of RYD dislikes over RYD likes times the ratio of the new RYD likes over the new RYD dislikes. The right side of the inequality is the ratio of (current) total likes over the non-RYD likes.

You don't need to understand the equation though to see that you can remove dislikes by brigading enough new RYD likes. Earlier in the thread I theorized that Ian had a bunch of brigaders taking advantage of the quirks of the extension to make the video seem better received than it actually was (which is why a) he asked his viewers to like the video to counter the narrative b) won't show the actual dislikes which are even worse than what the extension shows).

There are hundreds of hit pieces and commentary videos on Ian that do a way better job at exposing him for what he is to people who don't know who he is or haven't watched him since the old days, but they mostly focus on whatever the most recent drama was. The content cop was so surface level that it doesn't make an impact. For a real "content cop" on Ian Jomha you have so much more content and clips to use rather than haha you took your wife's last name and you're not funny anymore.
