Gameplay logic is a negligible part of binary size. It's a big 3D game with fancy new graphics (and probably a bunch of uncompressed audio and other modern foibles), so it'll take a big chunk of space; genre is basically irrelevant.

This. It's polygon bloat, lighting shenanigans, and a lot of cutscenes. It's also a game inside a game (world map like Golden Sun and classic Final Fantasy games), which uses its own data and logic unlike Witcher 3 which is insanely optimised, for one, but importantly recycles assets on a persistent world-scene. I think W3 also uses SpeedTree which is generative, holding some foliage asset growth in RAM instead of calling tailored assets from permanent data.

a 1070 is like a decade plus old.
There is absolutely 0 chance this game runs well on a 1070. i'm playing it at 3440x1440 with no upscaling on a fucking 7900xtx and it's borderline unplayable in spots. I hate Unreal Engine so much for having such great developer tools with such dogshit runtime performance, not to mention all the temporal rendering techniques that turn your screen into a smeary mess as soon as you move the camera.

The game is good, though, I'm not out of Act 1 yet because I don't have 12 hours a day to play telegames but so far I'm enjoying it. It basically feels like the Final Fantasy game I've been waiting for since FFX.

55GB for a turn based RPG
It's a pretty substantial game. 55GB for AAA-quality graphics and a soundtrack that's like 12 hours long. And at something like...
1746655895897.webp that long, honestly a pretty good trade. That's all from one mostly completionist (I missed like two costumes and two optional boss fights, which collectively would've probably been another 2 hours) playthrough.

Has no Denuvo so worth a pirate at least if you like RPGs.

That being said I can already imagine Mald played the game wrong somehow, either going for the bad ending and thinking it was good or just plain not understanding what the game is about.

Edit: Also now that I think about it, it's kind of a funny game to bring up in this thread just because the game was similarly made by a guy who technically was working in AAA game dev (He had some significant roles in two dogshit Ubisoft games that he apparently hated working on) and crowdsourced his staffing from Reddit and Soundcloud and worked on the game in his free time across the span of just 5 years. Here's a concept trailer from the first public post about the game. Consider that was 5 years ago and then look at the released version of the game whose most experienced dev had 10 years' experience and most of the staff had no experience, whereas Heartbound's been in beta for 8 years with no end in sight by a guy who claims to have 20 years' experience in gamedev. I'm shocked he was willing to even play it without feeling embarrassed.

He probably doesn't know this, as discussion around the game only mentions that the game is made by ex-Ubi workers.

His tweet where he brags about parrying was sent at 1:37 AM still in the 1st act and then at 9:48 PM the same day he already finished it, so he just probably rushed through it for gamer points, which is super lame and he probably didn't livestream it for a reason. My casual playthrough took 35 hours with some bits of side content (I do think I did most of everything accessible by swimming, didn't do a lot of the flying-only content yet).

I can only echo the sentinent though, the game is extremely enjoyable and really worth at least a pirate since no Denuvo. I also had no technical issues despite the game being UE5 sans weird shimmering around the characters in cutscenes (probably thanks to DLAA).

Why in the fuck would you do that to yourself. Does it support ratios above 16:9? I don't know a lot about hardware -> software compositing and scaling but the game itself might be bottlenecking whatever your GPU is demanding of it. Like "who ze fuq would hrun our jeux de vidéo on zis?"

Saw the gameplay and trailers and looked like a more polished and more graphically advanced raid shadow legends because your attacks depend on user input which vary from character to character, like one has a quick time event where you press the key at the right time while another who has a gun has to shoot weak spots. 52GB is not insane behavior, dude. But it's a point of personal preference. If you wanted more final fantasy (the new ones) then I'd understand the appeal. If you don't and dislike the gameplay, the graphics are just bloat (subjective and non objective opinion)

You do you, if you like it power to you. Personally I don't but it has to do with gameplay mechanics and the setting, you wouldn't like all the games I like due to similar reasons so it goes both ways.

Jasons going to cope how he doesn't have a team or whatever, but he does have contributors. And how twitch consumed so much of his time due to expanding his business and ferret rescue. As if that's anybody else's problem but his.

It's a lot closer to input-focused JRPGs from the early to mid 00s. The most distinct comparisons, to me personally, are to Koudelka: Shadow Hearts and Lost Odyssey, especially the latter (In many ways it feels like Lost Odyssey 2 with the serial numbers shaved off and everyone was given mustaches). Also all of them can shoot weak spots and have input-timed attacks. The actual gameplay differences between characters are things like fillable meters and stances.

And when I'm talking "AAA tier graphics" I mean more like everything legitimately looks like a prerendered cutscene. It's not just uncompressed 4K videos, all but two cutscenes are rendered in real-time so they just made everything look super high quality and I imagine that takes up a decent amount of space, but the actual amount of shit you can do in the game, levels, enemies, etc definitely fill up most of that 55GB of space.

Mald chipping into the Palworld lawsuit conversation on xitter:
I hate to admit it but I agree with Mald here, broken clock and all that. Patenting game mechanics is retarded. I get why Nintendo would be pissed at the not!Pokeballs but the rest if fucking stupid. Any game where you would glide with any kind of creature would be a no go because of copyright fuckery. The minigames during loading screens is something that still pisses me off to this day because that's something that could be used very creatively by other devs.

Nigger makes the safest take imaginable.
The only people who think Nintendo is doing the right thing here are nintendo autists and nintendo themselves.
The kicker is. They are doing the right thing. Doesn’t make them not arseholes for doing it.

That’s what makes Nintendo so bad. There is nothing worse than a technically correct arsehole that will prove it to you and make you suffer as a result.

As to what he’s actually saying, I honest thibk he’s wrong about trade narking very specific things.

And that’s because I think the reason games feel so shit now is because all they do is copy.

I think games could do with being forced to come up with completely original things or ways to do them.

I’d argue it would help the industry a great deal.

There's absolutely nothing correct about Nintendo's patents.

We are here to hate on Jason, not to suck Nintendo's tiny blurred dick. Please, stop this faggotry immediately. Also you are wrong and retarded.
