Whenever someone is deathly afraid of ai or worships it, they always fail to realize that it won't replace those jobs for a very long time, or ever. The ai is still dumb, not dumb as it was before, but it would have great difficulty replacing these jobs. It's the same towards those who freak out about ai art, it's not going to replace the talented artists for now, but the artists who do tumblr styled art, shit it out in seconds, and the ones who charge insane amounts for mediocre art are the ones who will be replaced. Same with authors, the generic writers will gradually be filtered out while the ones with talent remain.

Isaac Asimov wrote a short story that talks about this exact thing back in 1956. It's called The Last Question and in it he frames the human origin story in a secular way where god is an omnipotent AI that evolves over time. It's a great read and highly relevant to the discussion of AI.

I tried to use google ai when I was too lazy to actually dig up the katakana for "Dark Shadows" (hoping to find a japanese dub of the tv series), so I asked it "what's the katakana for Dark Shadows" and it gave me the characters to say "Dot Shadow" and a long-winded explanation about dot matrix printers being, like, dark and stuff. so it's better to do it that way.

While there's definitely impressive tech to get a simple question of transliteration to spit out "dakku shyaddousu" so TOTALLY fucking wrong, and have a reason why it's so wrong, it's still totally a wrong useless answer.

Its tremendously bad in so many ways, in terms of art, answering questions, music, its all complete dogshit and so much of it is innaccurate that I get extremely annoyeed seeing people bringing it up as a source of truth.

I saw it being showcased for use of doctors when recommending things that patients do and it even types out a whole response for them. If my doctor gave me a chat GPT answer of how to solve my medical issues I would probably want to kill them.

But its going to be used widely by corporations because they think it will save money even if everything gets more shitty because that is how it works, from hiring normal competent people to outsourcing to AI, its a downward trend and a bubble, but investors go crazy for the thought of replacing native born workers for a shittier and cheaper solution so its going to keep happening until everything gets to be so garbage and broken they need people again.

Also, seeing AI "answers" show up when I don't want them usually annoys. They are so generic and/or wrong and always sound like an "automated phone voice" to my mind's ears.

I hate those AI results from google. I don't know if Youtube is still doing it, but they had AI descriptions for videos that were flat out wrong. Like saying Reviewbrah didn't review the food. That was the whole video.

Found out in a Reddit thread that one can use uBlock to block that AI "answers" from appearing by adding this code to custom filters.
