I explained with the context of his past streams how he had the same view as Null on degen shit like Loli, but after last stream theres no saving him like that. The Loli shit has been a known bit of contention within his fandom and online presence for a while now. He is unwilling to make a definitive statement on it outside of "I don't really care", which while it isn't a full throated endorsement, does invite speculation as to why he won't just say "I don't like it and you shouldn't jerk it to Loli."
This invited a not-insignificant portion of genuine lolicons to feel comfortable in his chat, roughly 30% of his audience according to a poll he did, which admittedly, was probably about half the number of live viewers he normally gets because of how late it was at night. On that same note, anyone up at 3AM actively participating in your stream is bound to be your most dedicated viewers.
This has been one of my main issues with him to. He knows alot of his chat hate the "loli posters" and still mods and other viewers cant do shit because hes indifferent to it and wants their money or to "protect" his audience. Even if we assume the 30% number isnt accurate (I dont think it is) and lower down to like 10% or so, because people were "joking" around about a anonymous poll theres still a lot of them that are unironically attracted to that shit and its disgusting. Some people might deflect or pivot but I was there when he was streaming FF7 Rebirth and I saw the chat and all the people reacting everytime Yuffie (someone who originally in the games is between 15-17) even he was just laughing it up with all the people reacting with crying emojis to her and not commenting on how there being fucking weirdos.
This has made him, and this is just my opinion, unwilling to ban them like he should. When something comes up on stream and people spam UOOHs and crying emojis, I am mostly inclined to think it is done ironically by most of chat, but this also allows the "cunny posters" to feel more welcome than they should.
Synth himself has made somewhat confrontational statements about it, calling them pedos, but won't ban them despite banning a lot of people for "stirring shit."
It is clear that the lolicons are going to be the cause for the biggest shit stirring of all. If he was reading the thread I'd make a plea for him to just ban them, as I'm sure he'd easily recover if he did and have way less drama to worry about.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. I still don't think he is a pedo himself, and I'd be inclined to say his opinion is more that it shouldn't be illegal because he likes it and more that he just doesn't think it's a good idea to start banning art, regardless of its intent, of any kind. But he is bad at articulating himself, especially when drunk, so you know, it came out retarded.

The argument of irony can only go so far with these people, and there are people who have on his recent stream unironically said their fine with Loli in his chat, but a mod cant ban or time them out anyway.
All he needs to do to recover from this controversy is like you say, ban the loli people whether their "joking" or otherwise and stamp that shit out of his chat, it'll be bad for maybe 2-3 streams he'll get shit, he might even lose a fair few viewers, but not only will his chat improve this controversy will be stamped out clean.
End of the day even with his retarded shit last stream i agree, I dont think hes a pedo, i hope hes not in any case but he and Null clearly share the same viewpoint on loli in that its a complicated issue to leave a goverment to ban art for any reason because at some point they might go to far or in some cases they might not go far enough. He said as much afterwards in the stream with Thomas IIRC when he brought up the point again but Null didnt play the video that far.
Im not optimistic he will do anything suggested of him especially with his attitude of doubling or tripling down not doing something if it was asked of him by chat or fans but hey, maybe he'll realize the past few days hes been acting a bit retarded.
