If you work a job you like it's easy to forget that there's millions of people who do jobs as riveting as placing the same thing onto the same conveyor belt to watch the same machine bend it into the same desired shape, a thousand times a day, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, forever. Streaming vidya is easy as shit, every "problem" piggy has is self-inflicted. Nobody threw him into a SHU, his isolation is his own doing.

I think you make a decent point and I don’t want to come off as argumentative but the lack of social interaction is the real key here. Even if you’re stuck on an assembly line you still interact with others and have normal conversations with people outside your own sphere. You are aware of how real people feel about things, what people think about the world, people reacting to your own behavior to inform you whether or not you’re being a dickhead. We know these things are important to being a well adjusted individual but I also think it’s an ESSENTIAL part of a healthy work life.

Not to rag on the "Streaming's not all it's cracked to be" thing but in Phil's case, well holy tasty bananas. All of Phil's success is literally god-given. It's a little crazy, even. He wasn't one of the OG let's players. Early enough but definitely late to the party. He bypassed most of the tech literacy checks by just pointing a camcorder at his screen. He traded charisma for tardrage and knowledge and skill for autism and a very limited ability to monkey-see-monkey-do. He rose to the fucking top when by all means he REALLY should have been another 10 views channel, at the most. He was never clever, he was never good at creative problem solving, he has never once reached or even tried to reach the top in a competitive game he's played, which just happens eventually to players who stick around a game for long enough when they have even a modest amount of talent. Phil, in fact, will bow out of games when the going gets tough, and buy the same game four or five times to smurf accounts... Y'know, instead of just making a new account. He's dumb even at the most basic of ego stroking BS plays.

One key thing to mention is that most people aren't in a position or would even want to trade places with DSP. Most people probably are either NEET so therefore don't have to worry about mature adult bills or have a part time/whatever job and career and just do this shit on the side for "fun" (which DSP doesn't).

YouTube around the time DSP made his foray into it wasn't really geared for people doing it full time, therefore his autism schedule and spamming the fuck out of uploads paid off heavily for him, but it also devalued gaming videos as a whole (but to be fair, if he didn't do it someone else would've)

If you're doing this shit full time and aren't already on a stable footing income-wise (which DSP is not no matter how large his income is, it is unnaturally supported by like 1 or 2 whales who read here and on Twitter and see people raging hard at DSP getting money, which is the only reason they support him so much) then you will not have a good time of it. Just look at the lesbians, they got a bit of a boost of income and some popularity and were genuine + nice people from what I could tell but their income dropped off the side of the flat earth that we inhabit.
You seriously have to have a huge number of organic viewers and also some financial sense to go into this shit full time, especially nowadays (not to say that people don't because it can pay way better than a shitty job, but for most people it simply won't last unless they have great charisma).

Even then, having said all of that, most people that look at DSP's entire existence and all of the haters that come with it would 100% not trade places with him. The few people that would are likely hardcore detractors who are extremely jealous of his income (you can usually tell who is jealous by how much they pain themself to say they aren't jealous or mad that I just tipped him $1000 on at least a weekly basis)

I'm gonna say the same thing being said to anyone in the bossmanjack thread who mentions how they sometimes think they would love to switch places with BMJ because "if it was me I'd just walk away when I get a big win". You can't have your cake and eat it too. The entire reason why most people here aren't degenerate gambling addicts or narcissistic hermit shutins like BMJ or Phil is because most people here at least have some modicum of shame and long term thinking.

You can't just want to "trade places with Phil" without BEING Phil. Of course it's fucking easy to say "if I had 100+ people that tune in every time I press stream I can just not be an asshole like Phil and still get $120k/year" but I imagine not a lot of people would still think the same if the stakes are: you have to beg every 20 minutes, you have to findom these retards, you have to do a melty everytime you get BTFO'd in chat, you have to LIMB every 5 minutes and you have to fucking suck at video games, you have to never have friends, you have to feed a fat roommate, you have to be an asshole to your parents, and you have to continually live as a manchild chasing a dragon that only existed 10+ years ago.

No offence meant to anyone but I think saying Phillip has a dream job is a bit naive. Like a kid who thinks eating chocolate for every meal is a dream life.

I’m not sure if they still do it, but in the 90s Japanese companies had a room with a TV and newspapers. Instead of being fired, workers slacking off were sent to the room as punishment. Like ‘your life is meaningless and you’re wasting your time. You’re not a part of our group.’

I love films. Last weekend the girlfriend and I got a free 7 day trial to some expensive indie streaming service and we decided to watch 2 films a day to take full advantage. After 4 days it was a fucking slog and I’d had enough.

I’d agree Phillips job is cushy but it’s also miserable and soul destroying. I certainly wouldn’t call it a dream job. There’s no circumstances I’d trade my job for his.

You couldn't PAY me to have Phil's "job". I couldn't sit in front of a camera all day screaming at literal retards and/or social retards for their SSI and SSDI checks, being a complete asshole because I felt like it, and being a entitled little bitch-made piece of shit because I hate my life, but I'm gonna play it off that "Life is great".

Phil is a case study for psychologist and people much smarter than I am on self isolation and the harms of it. It's already been proven that solitary confinement is torture - people have developed mental disorders like schizophrenia, clinical depression, etc...that's just to name a few symptoms. However, Phil is a "special" case. Phil has been self isolating for a LONG time. Hell, even going back to when he had to interact with people, he would spend his life on the Shouken forms being a complete piece of shit to everyone and anyone that came across his path, along with being up until 2-3 in the morning drinking and talking shit and most likely going into work hung over and stinking of gin.

This is what Phil ultimately wanted: to be left alone on his little island, however he realized that we as people need interaction, as we are gregarious creatures. Not just online, but also in person. However, even the dumbest e-thot out there has a support group outside of their online world, and not just the simps that try to come off as their friend.

Point being, Phil created his world. He can blame the detractors, his parents, his dead aunt, Jaha, Mike Watson, T, or the fucking tooth fairy, but at the end of the day, Phil has no one to blame but himself and the shitshow he created...and no amount of money in the WORLD can pay be to switch places with that fucking idiot.

This is true for anybody getting into streaming today, Phil got in on the ground floor and was a big name back in the day. He had the golden ticket and still managed to piss it all away.

Hils Golden ticket was when Youtube was "small". Phil didn't even started streaming because he was iliterate in terms of streaming and he needed help from John to actually get it started (including direct Capture). But he threw away every opportunity by not upgrading immediately, not changing his style slightly, not embracintg being retarded at Gaming and so on. He had his peak in 2012 and then fell off severly (WPIG made this video and upddated the timeline Mighty D developed

There was actually a thread in these very subforums about "what would you do if you turned into DSP for a week" or some shit and a lot of people said they'd improve his finances and go exercise and shit but at least several of them said they'd go max out his credit cards, delete his WWE Champions account and do other shit.
