I have no idea where to put these thoughts except here, but here is some more traffic autism:

I noticed a strong correlation with an aggressive driver behind me and a single hand on the top of the steering wheel.
Polite drivers behind almost always have two hand visible or none visible (probably the newer 9-3 wheel form as opposed to the classic 10-2, or the tired man's 7-5).
Where an aggressive driver behind will almost always have a single hand visible at 11 or 12.

Any thoughts?
I'll admit I'm all of these people, though I do one hand on the wheel since I learned to drive on a manual (and still do fairly often). A single hand at 11 or 12 on an auto makes for great prep for a snap turn or lane change even if surrounding traffic is trying to go bumper to bumper, so I definitely agree with the stereotype.

I wonder how Jason would feel if their was a train horn outside his residence from 4:30 AM to 3:30 AM the following day.

Just a horn blaring every 15 minutes.
Reminds me of in the Blues Brothers when they go to Elwood's place. "So often you won't even notice it."

This is what urbanists want.

I know light rail trains use recordings of actual train horns, so it's just as annoying as real trains but a pale imitation of one (talk about "YWNBAT"), and would be annoying to live near (as well as the squealing of the wheels when braking, at least real trains on level, straight track tend not to brake)
I was in Philly a while back and my hotel was near a commuter rail station. I love trains as much as the next autist, but the airhorns and clickety-clack and brake squeals late into the night and resuming very early the next morning made it almost impossible to sleep well. I don't know how people live like this. The apartment I had that was on the flight path for an international airport was more tolerable.

Real drivers know you put your hands at 4 and 8. Unless you like breaking your face and arms in an airbag explosion.
Mom-style is the way for long commutes - one hand at 6, one free to grab a sip of your beverage or adjust the radio.

It's the US Government, why would you want to have a car sound like something that people walking can immediately identify as a car instead of "WTF is that?" The law just has frequency bands and loudness requirements.

Here's one from the Chevy Silverado EV, similar to my GMC.
I think they reduced the volume a bit in the later software or I'm just mentally ignoring it now.
Also, it still makes noise when stopped unless you put it in park, so at a drive-thru you get to put it in park to not horribly annoy the person taking your order.
Why the ever loving fuck would you buy a car that made this noise? Did you not test drive it? Christ, if I got in this thing, powered it on and it was this obnoxious to just sit in, I would have immediately thrown the keys back in the dealer's face and go buy a real car.

I tried riding in this position today and it felt absolutely horrible. Maybe it would get better after getting used to it. 5-7 or even one hand at 11 or 12 felt much more comfortable
9-3 is what I usually do but I also learned to drive on a stick and so one hand at 9 or 10 and the other hand on the shifter is just more normal for me. I find that having your hands further apart on the wheel is better for fine control.

Personally I think that ten-and-two originates from the days before power steering as standard on cars. Cars back then had larger steering wheels for leverage (which made holding the wheel on the side uncomfortable because of how far apart your hands are and holding the wheel near the bottom uncomfortably close to your stomach) and having your hand near the top of the wheel allows for more mechanical advantage in turning the wheel (if you've ever driven a car without power steering you'll find that out quick).

They did not heed the warning not to brigade (the guy who warned not to is the most prolific brigader):

I see they pulled out the "every bicycle is a car off the roads" comment, which has somewhat fallen out of fashion when it comes to their circles, but it's not true because most cyclists aren't doing it to go anywhere, it's for exercise or fun. It's the equivalent of cruising which many cities have cracked down on over the decades.

No, I'm not advocating that for cyclists (short of unregulated Critical Mass-type gatherings), but it's bullshit.

I would love to see some real polling that has the liberal areas real feelings toward cyclists. All indications that they're unpopular in large cities when it comes to their face getting eaten streets getting ruined to the point when restoration is a major plus.

The level of vitriol indicates that they know this, otherwise there wouldn't be as much crying.

/r/fuckcars posts data debunking induced demand but is too dumb to realize it:

The road capacity increased by 100% (2 to 4 lanes), yet traffic only went up by ~18%. This means that the road is LESS congested than it was before the widening.

The road is what used to be a rural road in the deep exurbs of Houston that is now being encroached by new development; it needs to be expanded because the local population has greatly increased:

@Uncle Tom's Condo they're talking about your profile picture lol.

Retards like Jason unironically say "cities aren't loud, cars are." As if cars were the only source of noise in a city.

It would be far more accurate to say cities aren't loud, niggers are.
As someone who has lived next a train track, trains are FUCKING LOUD!

There’s no mention of why trams were replaced in most places. Apparently, it’s all the fault of cars. But if trams were so great, why were most lines shut down in the first place? There’s a list on Wikipedia, and most of them are closed.
Trams closed because they were inefficient.

The average speed of trams is about 25 mph.

But in the Fuck Cars world, these trams need to serve the public so they need to make frequent stops. Even express trains need to stop more than cars.

Worse, if your destination is not on the direct route you will need to transfer taking even more time.

Their solution is to remove highways and only have them in the outskirts as well a reducing traffic flow. Ultimately, they want to make car travel take about the same or longer than a tram for subtly force you on in public transit.*

*This only applies to normal people. Similar to Manhattan congestion pricing those in lower Manhattan don't have to pay as they are already past the tolls.

This makes it easier for the uber rich that already live there to get around as well as those that can bare the cost.

You see a similar reasoning with a small subset of gear heads. They want to drive their dream cars on streets without middle class wages from Staten Island.

Why do people have to drive to work?! Can't the plebs take the subway where they belong? They are keeping me from doing this! -Fuck Cars Gear Heads

There used to be an interurban line (abandoned in 1923) in my town, and from reading it was unreliable, sometimes it would break down and you'd have to push it (generally not a huge problem since the ground was flat).

According to the Texas State Historical Association, this was because of competition from private automobiles. I think it's been mentioned that almost since the dawn of the automobile, someone quickly managed to figure out to make money by charging someone a price equal to what the streetcars were charging but along a more direct route, sometimes even directly to their destination.

This makes it easier for the uber rich that already live there to get around as well as those that can bare the cost.

This is more along the lines of the same sort of mealy-mouthed assholes that write for rags that ostensibly automotive-focused publications that disguise their hatred for the car (and their readers) that demand that roads be cucked and public transit be pushed so it would make things "better" for the remaining cars. Jalopnik does this all the time, even Jason tried it for a while but I guess he dropped the facade.

Personally, I think cars are one of those things where the "journalists" hate them and hat the people that use them, just like video games, but then write shit to pretend they don't.
