I believe there are legitimately a lot of boomers who live under a rock and still don't know about any of this shit. Especially if they live in a rural area and don't use the internet much.

It's not just boomers. Even a couple years ago I had friends in the 35-45 year old range asking me about trans because they know I pay attention to current goings on where as they don't. Some of them only learned about it because their kids were told about it in school. A a fair number in that age range where I live aren't old enough to care about legacy media where pro/anti narratives get pushed and got fed up with social media to the point where they gave it up before trannies became mainstream.

The gays and lesbians of yesteryear realized and accepted that they're not normal, and sought to blend into society as best as they could. It took decades for people to organically realize that just because Jim likes to stick it up Tom's pooper doesn't mean he's a bad guy (after all, he eats his steak medium-rare, loves sports team, and has saved numerous lives driving the town ambulance). Most of the harsh censorship comes from (board specific) mods rather than (sitewide) admins, so if the mods do a good job of keeping out the troons then the board can give itself a pretty long leash. From what I have seen posters on gaybros do a good job of shutting down troons without any drama or arguing, which makes it harder to manufacture a controversy that will get admins involved.

ETA: long running subs tend to get a wider berth too. Tumblr in Action was around for years before getting banned, and even after the mods started encouraging anti troon content specifically it took months for the banhammer to come down. Neovaginadisasters was brand new and only lasted days.

Part of the difficulty is that you have to listen to the same arguments again and again because they only have a few.
