Knowing someone's a killer and proving they're a killer are two different things. It's obvious he mashed his potato but the RCMP can't tell the judge how he mashed his potato, where he mashed his potato, or why he mashed his potato.

The only way they're going to catch a break is if some moose hunter finds a pile of potato bones out in the Canadian wilderness. It's either that or JF brags just a little too hard about mashing his potato on a stream and he gets reported.

That was my thought when I saw that follow-up post claiming the monks are running a secret sex trafficking/organ harvesting ring.

Given the other comments about these mystery monks constantly buying up land, my current fanfic is that JFG recently learned about these monks and/or that they owned the land where he dumped the body, which is what prompted the retcon.

IMO the most probable scenario is a leafanon with an axe to grind with the Buddhist monks wrote those posts with that motivation. Perhaps he made it up. Perhaps he saw someone who merely looked like Elora. Perhaps he actually did see Elora. But from what I've looked up, Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society (GEBIS) aka Bliss and Wisdom has caused quite a bit of friction on PEI mainly from buying up scarce real estate and skirting PEI-specific laws limiting the amount of real estate that can be owned by one individual or corporation (it's a small island). There are evidently many long-time residents who don't like them.

JF claimed on X to have had no knowledge of the existence of GEBIS before today. Take that for whatever it's worth.

If Elora is being potato farmed by the monks they do have a motive. From the aforementioned article, PEI has uniquely restrictive land ownership requirements:

I had a look into them and wasn't sure it was worth posting but I'll add what I found to the thread in case anything more comes of it.

Probably nothing but there was an incident of a Monk being struck by a falling tree and dying in August. There are a ton of news articles about this and it has resurfaced in the last couple of weeks due to them now being fined for negligence.

I also found a blog from 2017 (Link / Archive) claiming to expose the leader of GEBIS Mary Jin (as well as its parent group GWBI, it gets a bit confusing with different names but they're definitely the same group).

I also found this paywalled article that can be read on the archive claiming that there is an online misinformation campaign against the group with the actual motivations being racism against Chinese and the Chinese government and sexism toward the leader.

There are also a bunch of reddit threads (1 2) with people concerned about their family members joining the group. My main takeaway from these is that the group is impossible to research in English you would need to speak Chinese.
