What's funny is that George W. Bush doesn't get nearly as much hatred & bitterness as either Nixon or Trump. Bush is a legitimate war criminal who helped rob a generation of their financial security, and yet he's hardly even brought up anymore.

I don't hate Hunter S. Thompson, but I don't like gonzo journalism so much and I think he's a sort of time and place author. If you were young when he wrote his seminal works, I can see how they could blow your mind.

I'm personally a fan of William T. Vollmann. Europe Central is a great book.

And the point is why would you care about whether or not it was 'useful' to that specific person or that person's 'group' if you're speaking of a general religious experience? Why would that affect your conversion experience or chance of conversion? Why frame it as a specific relationship between you, that person(s), and the religion of Christianity rather than just say you don't wish to convert, or just not comment on it at all?

I'm not asking for an answer, think of this like a koan or similarly reflective exercise to help you not do or say weird shit in discussions that could be interpreted poorly. I hate poor or sloppy argumentation more than I dislike jews or helping jews.

It's because post Presidency Bush has largely fucked off to his ranch to ride horses and paint bad western scenes. He might occasionally be spotted at a Rangers game but that's about it.

By contrast a lot of progressive politicians cannot shut the fuck up ever. At least once a month Obama, Biden and the rest of the cuck cabal show up to give a snotty interview or a speech shitting on the country and it reminds us of why we all hated them in the first place.

There still is something different from mockery or poking fun at previous presidents, and mocking Trump.

The latter seems more fanatical and cultish, while one can enjoy the former even if not against the guy.

It's an aura of desperation. A lot of the people mocking Trump give the feeling that they're desperate that people not dislike him, even a little. That you MUST think he's literally hitler, a threat to everything, going to ruin everything, that he must be stopped, that he is the avatar of all that is wrong in the world, yet alone politics. You can't hate him 50% or even 75% you must be all in on the FUCK TRUMP party, or else.

I didn't see this in the bubble pointed at previous conservative leaders. People hated Bush, and yeah, some of them hated him a LOT. Romney, McCain, et cetera, they disliked them. But there was never this aura of desperation amongst them all. My boomer parents are pretty apolitical, never spoke with me about politics at all, ever. Every single time Trump is mentioned around my mother she launches into a tirade about how she hopes he dies and every single thing he's ever done has been the worst thing ever and god why did he survive that gunshot hope the next one takes him out. It's fucking eerie.

Being in the bubble and on the left during GG was like seeing all the people around you have a thin veneer of respectability get scraped away and discovering what was right under the skin was dark black and writhing in hate for everyone who was even a little different than them politically. Not just hate for even moderates yet alone conservatives, but sneering, joyful hate. It's the same thing with TDS. They can't just be against him. They can't just be opposed to his policies. No, they have to HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE him and everything he does says or represents and they HAVE to make sure you know it.

It is a mental illness. I don't know what one. I believe it's the result of demoralization or phobia indoctrination or something, but I'm no shrink -- and the shrinks were compromised years ago by the activists.

I personally feel like if TV existed perhaps 20-30 years earlier, there would've been caricatures of Warren Harding (and perhaps Jefferson Davis as well) to use as a caricature of a corrupt politician like Nixon was way back when.

Either you believe Trump got what he wanted, which is other countries (China) to lower its tariffs on the US, or you believe Trump cucked. I argue the former since we got something out of it, but whaddaya gonna do?

I feel as though the play has been, since Trump 2016, to make Saudi Arabia a regional player alongside Israel. The Saudis are getting sick of the Palestine issue due to Iran's fuckery.

The Axis of resistance is dead so now the Sunnis are winning and Trump seems fine with that

I think the real money is just that there's some trade deal made in the next month or so, both parties walk away acting as if neither lost and what we're left with is just the same shit as before. Trump wants a 'victory' that people aren't going to flay him for and even if it just results in a net effect of slight tariffs on China and a slight lightening of their tariffs on the U.S., the people who are loyalists will defend it to the death as owning China just as I'm sure Xi's fanbase - assuming he has one - will defend his actions in turn.

Everyone should be. Middle Eastern stability appears to track not just with having a Sunni majority, but with how overwhelming the Sunni majority is. Palestinians are the main exception to this, but for reference the Shia majority countries are Iran, Iraq, and Bahrain. Yemen and Syria have smaller Sunni majorities, so of course they have civil wars
