In the US its an absolute defense when it comes to slander and defamation. Fun fact - in canada its explicitly not a defense. The supreme court has flat out stated, multiple times, that the truth is not a valid defense against such statements and won't tolerate or entertain any challenges to the contrary. You can be sued and prosecuted for defamation as well as inflicting mental and emotional destress and what have you, simply for calling somebody out on a provably truthful statement, so long as in a courts opinion it does any sort of harm to the person

That said, i'd say its a good bet her lawyer contacted youtube and pointed that out to them, threatened to turn it into a legal shitshow and so they banned it, but only in canada. I'd also bet money that attempting to upload it again stands a good chance of youtube shitcanning his account and hitting him with a permaban for trying to circumvent the restriction

No they couldn't. Problem is youtube is a service provider, as such they're legally bound to adhere to the laws of the countries they offer services in for users from that country. Its why shit can get weird for chinese, german and australian users at times. If they refused and cited american law, her lawyer could cite canadian law, cause a major legal headache and bad publicity for youtube and would likely have a decent payout by the end of it. She's absolutely the type to exploit that and make an issue of it for the sake of doing so
