For the gay to be worthwhile in a story it has to have huge payoffs in the plot. That one fag with the shotgun in The Wire, the end of American Beauty... it has to be a point of inner turmoil for the character with huge implications and it has be laid out for the viewer in advance (proper foreshadowing is crucial) or use new/ancillary characters. It's fucked up when they do it with an established character after a 2 seasons or in the second game or whatever.

The vast majority of media does not even come close to meeting these criteria and even when it does it's just a foothold for slopaganda, HBO is HBO after all. In any event, once GLAD got involved in media consulting it's been an endless stream of representation slop, mary sue characters, terrible writing and state mandated homosexuality.
