You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

RBG to CMYK is going to make that thing an even bigger mess if it goes to print.
It's strictly for digital marketing in the social media wasteland, but you're right. Soft-proofing it reveals a nice "End Stage Cataracts" aesthetic.

More on topic of general gear grinding, the reasons why I find shit like this so frustrating are 1) I actually want lesser known local acts to reach wider audiences, and 2) when you don't have the means to produce "creative" promo material, then just don't do it. It's not necessary. Stuff like this is perfectly fine:

"Boring, simple and generic" is infinitely superior to "Total Legibility Death".

The “purist” mentality when it comes to adaptations, I know race swapping is annoying, especially when it is token for representation or rewriting characters. But that's what an adaption is showing, taking something old (more specifically something that has brand recognition and modifying it)
If you do not like it, watch /read / play the original.

I understand why this is, kinda.

Collective memory is very short-term. Most people only know about the current thing to do a thing, That’s how Hollywood gets away with “groundbreaking” casting. Amy Schumer can go unchallenged when she says when she was young, people told her girls weren’t funny and nobody shouts “Lucille Ball, you cunt!”

The fact is, nobody in that situation did research (assuming that actually happened and I don’t even believe it did), but it does get traction.

The purists don’t want the new version to overwrite the original, because they understand people won’t be honest about the original. Now, there’s a point to be made about not caring if the new version does things wrong, but that’s how you get black people as Anne Boleyn and Cleopatra.

That shit migrated to historical fiction, and for the same reason.

I'm about at the point where I think every job no matter how shitty should have mandatory bi weekly drug testing. It is so unbelievably fucking irritating for every interaction with someone in the service industry to take 10+ minutes because the stoned dipshit behind the counter moves at the pace of a retarded snail and has to ask me to repeat very simple statements like "I'd like a #7" 5+ times.

Oh you don't like your job? Yea I have my compliments too but I can get through my shifts without frying my synapses into retard territory.

I should have clarified by saying people wanting the 1;1 adaptation being like source material.

I know in some video game shows like Halo and IIRC God of War, the people writing and directing didn't play or care about the games stories.

Gamers are finally arriving at the realization comic book fans had decades ago: you will never get a 1:1 adaptation. Every director winds up wiping their ass with the source material, so you can’t judge it by fidelity. It’s either good entertainment or it isn’t. That’s it.

If you do not like it [...] play the original.
The problem is that many developers/publishers like to remove the original games from digital platforms when a remake or remaster is released to encourage players to purchase the new product. This turns the original games into a commodity whose price is often inflated and, over time, becomes inaccessible due to the limited supply.

Piracy and preservation are good alternatives, but, at least from my own experience, media is too often lost online. People move on, websites get shut down... Despite what people like to say, the internet tends to forget.

A pet peeve of mine is when I see a modern day video that features GTA: SA footage, they ALWAYS use the "Definitive Edition". I know it's in HD, but it looks butt fucking ugly. It's LITERALLY the mobile phone port upscaled into HD. It's complete garbage, which everybody knows. But it also looks like shit. I get mad every time I see it whether it be b-roll footage or a video discussing the general game itself and not specifically that version. Just use some kind of HD mod of the original or something if it's such a big deal.

There’s a YouTube channel obsessing over a Stars and Stripes mod for San Andreas. Redwoods and sepia jizzed every inch of the map and the "cities" are architectural diarrhea . I was this close to asking if they planned to expand to other galaxies next, but didn’t want to encourage them.

God damn it

At least there's a shitload of better mods out there, as apparently the failed remaster inspired SA modders to raise their game.

You wanna know what grinds my fucking gears? Old people ordering food at restaurants. Every single time I go to a restaurant and there's an old person/people ordering from the front counter they have to make sure they take as long as physically possible. How hard is it to understand that you're supposed to be prepared to order when there's a line behind you. On top of that they have to ask every single question their neurotic brains can think of then change their order 6 times. The most frustrating part is that old people are disgusting creatures of habit, they only go to the same 3 restaurants and they order the same thing every time. It's almost like they enjoy wasting everyone's time.

I'm sorry if I'm coming across as MATI but I had to get it off my chest.

it's also a hot four months old. the title of her dissertation?

nobody is prouder of their DOCTOR title than a baby fresh grad student, especially when their degree is in a fake STEM field like psychology. congratulations on your DOCTOR title which will definitely make people take you seriously and think you're very smart. I can't wait to see all the difference you'll make using your DOCTOR knowledge to *checks notes* write race-grifting editorials for every culture war snot-rag on the internet. really gives you hope for a better future.
Does the title Dr. even mean anything anymore? You could get a doctorate in almost any field now. Also, a minimum word count requirement hard wired into these scholars' heads need to go away. When your TITLE is a mini essay, you know you're doing WAY TOO MUCH.

I think the struggle here, from the perspective of a fan of something being adapted, is twofold: first, transplanting something into a different medium gives you an opportunity to see it from a different perspective. especially in the case of book to movie/game, or a kind of side story that adds on to an existing universe. second, it's an opportunity to reach a different audience and bring new fans into the fold. in both cases, nobody wants the source material to be arbitrarily rewritten. Halo and Fallout got shows because those franchise names have a cultural presence owing to the success of the original games. the fact that they so heavily twist the roots of the tree they sprout from does nobody any good. what they've done is create two separate audiences who are alienated from each other with the only common thread being piss pig consoomers who joyfully gobble up anything that has the right name on it. they're not pleasing the fans and they're not bringing new fans into the franchise at large. at best they give the franchise a brief moment of extra momentum in The Discourse just by virtue of releasing something new with the name on it.

to contribute to the thread, that's precisely something that grinds my gears: when an adaptation is made by somebody who clearly isn't even tacitly interested in the source material, and doesn't have the writing or directorial talent to improvise, and it ends up being a grade below machine-generated slop for idiots. and then people who are into the adaptation want to talk about it because they think we have something in common (not to shit on them for any of this obviously, I would love to be able to connect over any of this shit) and I have to carefully prune the negativity out of everything I say as they infodump about the show, while they act confused and uninterested when I infodump about the game. Netflix was a mistake.

Obvious degenerates posting their fetish material as le funni. Sure, you saw the gay poop porn accidentally and found it hillarious, I totally believe ya.
That's pretty horrible, but even worse is trying to pass their fetish off as a genuine question/request for advice from unsuspecting strangers. Usually it goes like "what would you do if [incredibly specific and unrealistic fetish]?". There's something so viscerally disgusting and almost predatory about the way these creeps do that.

If you insist on being called "Dr." and you're anything but a medical doctor, you need to neck. And even using the "Ph.D." suffix outside of an academic context also means you should neck.
