I saw the same thing in other online communities. A friend was in one such community as a new mom and there was all sorts of debates and vitriol regarding who bottle fed versus who breastfed. I'll never forget her showing me post where someone else used the term "boob nazi" in the breastfeeding debate. Amazing how people can be so petty over the most trifling of matters.

There is actually a thing like this now called "pre-dating" where basically some company books a bar/restaurant or whatever, people buy tickets for like 20 bucks, they get a little questionaire and fill it out. Then they put people who had similar answers in a group on the day of the event. Kinda like speed dating but screened. Can't be worse than the shitfest that is online dating.
Ive seen an uptick in 'friends' apps and casual hangout apps that put zoomers together with in-person hangouts. I have not tried it, but as you said, can't be worse than the hookup FOMO slop on tinder, hinge etc.
