Chantal is a slob, and always was. The state of the villa was disgusting. I do not know much about the Middle East and the relationship between husband and wife, but I assume that the wife is in charge of the house and children and it is expected that the house be spotless. Salah probably expected that Chantal would act the same way other people's wife. The only reason he tolerate her is her promise to bring him to Canada; there is no other reason.

About Chantal throwing water out. Salah is right that water is a precious commodity in the Middle East. It shows that Chantal has not even tried to integrate a little bit into the Middle Eastern society. She is clueless about cultural norms and expectation of behaviours.
