General Wrestling Discussion

I thought Saturday Night Main Event was pretty fun tonight. First time in a long time I watched a normal WWE broadcast and didn't start fast forwarding shit. No long bullshit Microphone stage soliloquys. Just some quick promos and fake fighting. And the matches were shorter than usual right?

I didn't get the end of the Cage Match though, I was agreeing with Jesse Ventura you shouldn't be able to walk out of the cage. What's the point of a Cage Match if the guys aren't climbing out to win?

To be fair, the established rules of a WWE cage match are that you can either climb out or walk out and the latter has happened a good few times.

Unfortunately this was a very predictable show.

Rolllins and Breaker we never losing cause they are only starting their arc so punk and sami were guaranteed to lose. Bronson reed being back and added to the mix is great however so that was an unexpected plus. Good match, but that's not too unexpected with those in it.

Vega wasnt lose until after maybe worlds collide, or longer.

Cena was never losing, but again R-truth is a fucking treasure to wrestling so made it great especially his old school cena entrance.

Priest v McIntyre was the only one I wasnt certain on until I heard McIntyre was injured then I knew priest was winning.

Logan v Uso, they aint taking it off yeet-man for a few more months cause the casuals love him (not framing it as a bad thing as thats money for them)

Cena's promo before Jey's match was great, im still enjoying him ruining wrestling attitude.

EDIT; The walk out of the cage has been in the fed since at least the 80s. there was a hogan - bossman match that had the cage then on the wwe vault (would have been later in the timeline but was well established by then)

Yeah I remember the classic Bret vs Owen Hart match Owen tries to just escape thru the door and Bret has to pull him back in like for 10 minutes. And then Shawn vs Taker HIAC a big plot point was Shawn trying to just open the door to get away from the Deadman. I just don't know I feel if you're gonna have a cagematch it should be part of it but now I understand Drew is injured so I'm sure that played a part in it. Sucks because I really like Drew I was hoping he'd get a push now.

Chelsea having a nose bleed was the biggest surprise. Can they fake that? Definitely looked legit to me.

Going back to at least the 70s, the WWF cage match could only be won by climbing over the top, or going thru the cage door. No pinfalls or submissions.

I think it happened on the 619. If you play it back you'll see that Zelina doesn't make it all the way, and then she does this little snap kick with her right leg to try and make it maybe look like less of a botch, and you can see it makes Chelsea's head snap back and the next time she comes up to the camera she's bleeding.

Speaking to Leap Academy (via Fightful), Khan revealed how Vince McMahon’s decision to revive the football league helped AEW. According to Khan, it was mostly due to how bad of an idea an XFL revival sounded.

“In 2018, the McMahon family announced they were going to relaunch the XFL,” said Khan. “That probably also had an effect on my thinking because that sounded like a terrible idea to me. The amount of money they were going to put into it, when the NFL is such a dominant competitor and the NFL is so strong. And I was proven right because the XFL did go bankrupt. I thought, ‘That’s not going to work.’ You know what would work? A second wrestling league.”

Khan went on to note why he thought AEW would be successful. To him, the sheer number of wrestling talent outside of WWE was too large.

“There are way more wrestlers out there to start a second wrestling league. If I built a challenger wrestler league, the roster of that league would be so much better, comparatively, than the roster of the XFL. It wouldn’t even be close. As a viewer of the sport, as somebody who loves football and wrestling, wrestling needs a second league a lot more than football does. I think we were proven true of that.”

Tony: Heheheh Vince is so stupid wasting money on the XFL again. I should start a company because I'll never make those kind of dumb mistakes.
Also Tony: Let's spend 7 figures making a video game where we need to change the cover 5 times because guys left before it was finished. I'll also appoint one of my wrestlers to be the main consultant even though he has no experience designing video games.

The big thing that sunk XFL 2.0 was Covid, something which the Snowman completely ignores.

Not saying that the XFL would be rivaling the NFL or anything but it'd probably still have a TV deal and the such since networks are starved for content these days.

Guy is such an idiot.

"Kenny is a gamer, he'll know how to make a good game!" was one of the weirdest copes I kept reading about the game being repeatedly delayed and massively over budget. Then it turned out to be a giant pile of shit that nobody bought anyway. Never gets mentioned anymore.

Sure, put a gamer who doesn't know game development as a consultant and see how that works out. The development and mild-negative reception to this game was another LOLAEW moment.

I assume the bullshit around the game was partially throwing money in some scheme.
There's nothing that complicated in "make a wrassle engine, make your roster and assets, finalize roster"

even just a gamer knows you have to put the damn game out

tbf if fight forever had a shitton more content than wwe 2k25 or mdickies wrestling games, i'd buy him some snow to sniff on, because the gameplay is easier to pick up and fun.
