It irritates me to see Anisa call herself a “cultural Muslim”. In which way? She said she’s only interested in Buddhism. She has denounced all Abrahamic religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity). “Culturally” Muslim is the newest retardation I’ve heard for white passing, westernized, American part Lebanese people to latch on to to seem quirky or victimize themselves.

If I can play devil's advocate for a moment, "culturally Muslim" is not the worst thing that someone can say. One can be an atheistic Jew, and yet still be "culturally Jewish" because Jews are an ethnoreligious group. Insofar as being "culturally Muslim" is concerned, Muslims aren't an ethnicity but the religion itself has tons of stuff that, while shared on some measure, differ drastically in execution and symbolism. Not to mention that being "culturally Muslim" does allow for people to enjoy holidays like Eid while spending time with the family (this mostly applies to murtads/apostates/ex-Muslims who are physically in yet mentally out with Islam). That's not even getting into how Islam, as a religion and as a religious tradition that proliferated and developed throughout the centuries, can be shockingly diverse. Gujarati Bohras, for example, are highly visible Muslims in India with a strong, regionally renowned food culture, are known for their traditional and often colourful modes of dress, and it helps that they're actively involved in the communities they live in. Qadianis, though not universally recognised as Muslims, have a strong diaspora presence and develop strong communal ties with one another by necessity as a once-persecuted heterodox minority. Lest we ascribe Pakistan totally irredeemable status, it must be stressed that Pakistan is quite literally responsible for the most renowned Muslim devotional music ever made. Even if you look past the death of the titan Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, we still have giants like Abida Parveen and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who attract international audiences. Not just across the border into India, but also in places like Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The way I see it, there are no shortage of ways one can claim to be a "cultural Muslim" if they're just a physically in, mentally out murtad/apostate/ex-Muslim in plain sight trying to live life without putting too much thought into religious stuff.

Having said all of that, I do agree with you about Anisa's usage of the phrase "culturally Muslim" being mind-numbingly awful. Pre-COVID, she disavowed Islam and publicly made a video talking about why she left Islam. That was like what, 5-6 years before she went full-tilt into the Free Palestine Intifada Gaza Revolution bandwagon? I'm 99% sure that Anisa's current inner circle is basically filled to the brim with progressive Muslims because I'm shocked that no one made a callout post or a callout video committing takfir against Anisa and her tenuous (or indeed, nonexistent) grasp over Islam, let alone the fact that her husband iDubbbz tore apart a Qur'an unrepentantly on camera (in the prime of his youth, well before ever meeting Anisa, and long before he was publicly ridiculed as a cuckold, no less).
