My own forename is Anglicized French, but I have had people argue with me that it's really short for a Spanish name and I shouldn't hide my beautiful Hispanic heritage under butt-ugly English. I look about as Hispanic as John Wayne looked Asian.

There's no end to people who, in the pursuit of never making assumptions based on superficial markers, will make endless assumptions about even more superficial markers.

I agree completely with whoever made that post. If I'm Indian and my name is Srivastavaramashivaaharajuvaripeta or whatever and I introduce myself as "Sam," fuck you if that's not good enough for you.

My name is a totally Anglo name but missing a letter from how it's usually spelled I've gotten people pronounce like it's foreign in an exaggerated way because they made assumptions about my ethnicity. I'm red boned, not Latino, there's no rolled 'r' in my name, stop it.
