I have no opinion regarding her thoughts on this site, but I remembered her saying something about free speech in regards to Trump, and apparently it's from a speech in 2016 PEN Literary Award Gala:
The tides of populism and nationalism currently sweeping many developed countries have been accompanied by demands that unwelcome or inconvenient voices be removed from public discourse. Mainstream media has become a term of abuse in some quarters. It seems that unless a commentator or television channel or newspaper reflects exactly the complainers’ worldview, it must be guilty of bias or corruption.
Intolerance of alternative viewpoints is spreading to places that make me, a moderate and a liberal, most uncomfortable. Only last year we saw an online petition to ban Donald Trump from entry into the UK. It garnered half a million signatures. Now, I find almost everything that Mr. Trump says objectionable. I consider him offensive and bigoted. But he has my full support to come to my country and be offensive and bigoted there.
His freedom to speak protects my freedom to call him a bigot. His freedom guarantees mine. Unless we take that absolute position without caveats or apologies, we have set foot upon a road with only one destination.
If my offended feelings can constitute a travel ban on Donald Trump, I have no moral grounds on which to argue that those offended by feminism or the right for transgender rights or universal suffrage should not oppress campaigners for those causes. If you seek the removal of freedoms from an opponent simply on the grounds that they have offended you, you have crossed a line to stand along tyrants who imprison, torture and kill on exactly the same justification.

You can also check out her tweets through the search function. Here's the search for "freedom of speech" too. Her stance seems pretty consistant: everyone should be allowed to say whatever they want, even if it offends people and herself, debate and opposing ideas are good, and forcing people to talk a certain way or only say certain things is bad.
I don't think she's gone to bat for Lucy Connolly, but her focus is on women's rights. There's a lot of things she hasn't weighed in on, or has only weighed in on after being prompted into it (like the Putin situation).

I can imagine her stance on free speech has changed during her whole TERF arc. She has supported plenty of less fortunate women that have been screwed over by trannies. If she didn't have fuckoff money herself, and the clout of being a lefty lady that wrote children books, she might've been crushed under the tranny tide as well. For a long time being pro tranny was in vogue. You can easily imagine a scenario in which a person would say "of course I care about free speech, but you cannot say transwomen aren't women". She is smart enough to extrapolate that and be pro free speech on things you disagree with.
She probably stays out of most internet slapfights like Lucy to keep her sanity. The tranny issue lays close to her heart, so she couldn't stay silent even if she knew she would get a lot of hate for it. I have the idea many kiwis also dislike how modern politics have diverted from their old cores. Like how leftleaning people feel they are no longer represented by the current left politicians that are talking about diversity and trannies, rather than more mundane things like cost of living and worker rights. Seeing how Rowling went through something similar with trannies and labour, she might feel at home here.
I don't think Rowling is a kiwifarmer, but I don't think she would be completely out of place either. Let her loose in the stinkditch for a week, I say.

Absent any comment on the matter, it's probably safe to assume that the only thing Rowling knows about Connolly is what she's been told by the media, which has painted an extremely distorted image of what actually happened, meaning her view will be negative. Gell-Mann amnesia will be in full effect.
I will say this, though: I think she's slowly waking up to the problem of immigration - she's already highly critical of Islam for its misogynist treatment of women - but she's not going to address it much in public, if at all. If she does, it will likely be within the frame of rape and abuse of women and girls, focused on the huge, male-favouring sex imbalance among immigrants the fact that, just like transgender men, they are protected when they rape and their crimes are minimised purely because of their status. This would make the campaign consistent in her mind. Islam's treatment of women is something she already highlights as a problem in places like Iran, where she sees continuity between women wanting to throw off islamic dress codes and her own campaign to protect women from abusive men.

JK Rowling herself was an actual victim who got herself out of her situation as a single mother barely surviving on benefits and fleeing from domestic abuse before the success of Harry Potter. Rowling can see that many on the modern left are spoiled perpetual victims who have never gone through true hardship like she has. She's not naive or stupid.
