Fatal shooting at AutoZone reignites debate over open carry laws in Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A fatal shooting at an AutoZone store on East Charleston Boulevard has sparked a debate over Nevada's open carry laws.

Police reported that a man, acting erratically, used a victim's firearm to fatally shoot him.

The victim had been exercising his legal right to openly carry the weapon when the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kyle Capucci, managed to seize it.

Jeff Margetta, an educated gun owner, expressed concerns about open carry practices. "I see people open carry, and they do not watch their surroundings at all," he said. "And that's kind of a scary thought, because someone could come up behind them, take their gun, and then they're liable for what happens."

Firearms instructor Ken Ortega noted the rarity of such incidents. "It's not very often. There are only two documented open carry homicides that have happened in recent years. So it's really more of the anomaly," he said. Ortega emphasized the importance of using a level-2 or level-3 retention holster to prevent unauthorized access to the weapon.

Maggie Mordaunt from the Women's Defense Network highlighted various reasons individuals might choose to open carry. "They may feel strongly about just maybe exercising their right. They may feel strongly that... maybe they can't get a concealed carry," she said.

While open carry is legal in Nevada, firearms experts caution against it unless individuals are professionally trained and knowledgeable about the law.

The practice can also cause discomfort among the public, particularly visitors from states like California, where open carry is prohibited.

Good job with that open carry, dumbass. I bet you felt really safe.
It's not so much safer when they're armed... I'm betting it's just vindicated when the umpteenth person like yourself ends up as a smear versus their one in a blippity bloop million hoodlum grabbing a gun and Xing them out.

The real question is: why do you hate the gun so much? why does it take that level of insanity to make you focus on that instead of the type of person that does horrible things with literal kitchen knives?

I promise you that to anyone that has half a brain the aggression and fervor in which you guys attack the gun itself leads us to believe that yall are all actually just schitzos that exist in some Warner Brothers animated cartoon Fantasyland where guns have two arms, four legs, a dick, and they murder raped your entire family.

I'm not a gun grabber by any means, but I think open carry is stupid. I wouldn't want someone walking around with any weapon like that. Too easy for someone to grab it, be it a lunatic or a child. Concealing it gives you the element of surprise and makes you immune to being disarmed.

Open Carry is for combat situations. But considering this happened in Las Vegas I'm willing to concede that there's a blurry line between war and what happens in Vegas at night.

If you are doing an open carry, you should always have a clasped holster for this very reason. Gun nutters always say "But this will lengthen the speed of your draw"! My brothers in Christ, there is not a gun fight in the world that starts like a western movie showdown at high noon. If having an unlocked holster was so much better, then why don't the cops do it? They don't. For this very reason. The time it takes someone trying to steal your weapon to fumble with the clasp is time for you to react to it. Its way more useful to have it then not.

Make open carry more attractive with one easy step! (Califags HATE this trick!)

Seriously I can't think of a better pro 2A argument than "it upsets those limp wristed California faggots".

Going to assume this was some kind of pocket/waistband carry because pretty much every proper holster wouldn't allow you to just swap someone's firearm without a struggle.

I'm not a gun grabber by any means, but I think living in a society plagued with absolute lunatics is normal.
Bro I get it. I'm sure I still have plenty of notions that are false but I've somehow gotten over blaming Billy the potentially retarded pocket knife sperg from being stabbed with one of his own knives. I don't even want to go into what levels of inane and manipulative bullshit that is to turn it around on the inanimate object itself.

We don't actually think this believe this. We are just told to think this way because it's far more convenient for the powers that be to victim blame vs addressing the baffling numbers of psychotics that just roam the streets looking to start shit. If only poor Billy had kept his knife in his pocket or left his knife at home then maybe a complete psychopath wouldn't have stabbed him with it. < That's literal pearl clutching. Keep retards safe from themselves™ is barely applicable.

Also I too think open carry is stupid but for far different reasons than most people: I think Texas/bolo ties on ppl that never touch cattle/work in the sun look stupid as hell. If you're wearing your PDW as an accessory you're probably a fucking poser in the worst possible clique next to cholos or niggus: redneckery.

Open carry is like nudists. The people who practice it are not the people you want to see.

Unless you have a damn good reason to open carry, it's the dumbest shit you can do.
I partially disagree. Whether open carry makes sense or not depends on the situation and context.

At a minimum, any kind of open carry holster should have a retention strap. Anything that doesn't is unsafe and fucking retarded, end of story. It's not just the danger of niggers grabbing your piece that you have to worry about. If there isn't a strap or some other kind of retention mechanism, you can cause the gun to slip out of the holster, and now with the trigger uncovered, you're in a ripe situation for a negligent discharge. Negligent discharges make you an asshole.

Are you in a dense part of the city where the nigger quotient is higher, or in the richer neighborhoods full of people who vote for gun grabbers because they can afford to pay someone else for their safety? Carry concealed. Are you out in the rural areas, where being armed is normal and no big deal? Carry openly.

I shit you not, I have been thanked for having the manners to be properly armed because I openly had a Glock on my hip at a party out in East Fuckistan. The host proceeded to briefly lament how many of his guests were city folk who didn't understand being openly armed was the polite thing to do, or that trucks existed to do hauling and other real work.

But in the city, where the niggercattle can be spooked into a panic by the sight of a gun, no matter how properly retained or controlled? Better to carry concealed.
