Other comments have gotten into the details about how this isn't a simple victim/bad guy situation, that the kid who jumped was very active online and obviously already stepping into the groomer role himself, that the groomer was at most 1-3 years older than the 17 year old who jumped, so on and so forth. I also don't see anyone really guffawing here, more grim humor. What can you do? Any attempt to intervene before it's too late is "transphobic" and will get you fired or canceled or worse. In fact if his mom had tried to stop him trooning out, in that specific PNW state, she would have lost custody. There are, sadly, many such cases.

Even if she didn’t lose custody, good luck trying to talk a 17-year-old out of a bad relationship. You can try taking their phone and laptop away but they’d probably start messaging each other with a PS3 or Samsung refrigerator. Ground them and forbid them from going to see them? They’ll move in with them on their 18th birthday just to spite you.
At least mom didn’t have to worry about any surprise grandkids here.

I swear I’m not a libertarian but 17 and 19 doesn’t seem too crazy to me. I think I’d have more of a problem with the YouTuber because they have more money, influence, responsibility, etc. but I wouldn’t call them a pedo. These two just seem like regular-degular losers. Based on what we have here I don't buy it. If there's some hard evidence of actual death I haven't found it and don't plan to keep looking. Without proof this strikes me as a fake-out to leave social media. If it's real then its genuine comedy gold that he was laughing at a rat falling off a bridge ~3hrs before doing the same.

Something that I have pointed out is that only they run defense for him now, well after he died. All of this feels very grifter-y as a lot of them did not know who he was, and never will. I know plenty of people have said this before, but the only really notable thing about this particular case is that people only began to care nearly a month after he jumped, and not when something could have actually been done. Says it all, really.

In fact, I kind of wonder how this got picked up at all. This kid could just as easily have ended up a nameless component of the 41% statistic, no outcry or memery or nothing. I’m a parent and I couldn’t imagine my kids being groomed by online freaks into this death cult and then committing suicide. Parents these days, especially gen Xers, are still so technologically illiterate and lassez faire about their children’s online activities that they get groomed by these people and they’re none the wiser. It’s not funny, it’s sad and sends a loud and clear message that we need to stop pushing this “be yourself and be unashamed of yourself” bullshit because this is the end result of it.
