I watch FM less for his bits or jokes and more for his Gordon character. I'm sure you can come up with SOMETHING in a year's time, nobody expects to see the same tired tropes out of him like with, say, Civvie in every episode. Most of the magic comes from Gordon reacting to his surrounds, occasionally a combat sequence and filling dead air with some musings or stories. It's not exactly rocket science, and the situation he's in right now is definitely ripe for material more so than, say, yet another vent or box smashing room in Black Mesa. Oh, there is cutscenes and character interactions too, which are basically a freebie.I think he's just running out of ideas for FM2 and doesn't want to reuse jokes. The longer it goes, the harder it will be to come up with something original. Don't hold your breath for Modern Major General II: Electric Bogaloo.
The whole point of FM is that we're observing the story of Gordon as if he was a real person, so naturally he would come around and make a similar joke or observation during the course of a day. I can't really fault him for that, and really, I can't even remember a bad episode off the top of my head. Waiting for the new episode is always the worst part.A couple years back, I re-watched FM1 from start to finish over a long weekend and I was impressed how many jokes/observations were recycled. In fairness, FM1 lasted a long time and had long hiatuses (Machinima BS) so if you were watching in real time, you wouldn’t notice as much. That’s more of a problem for long solo levels, but whenever he’s interacting with NPCs, that’s when some new gems come out (Kleiner backstory from grad school, Gordon being an ass to Alyx/Eli Vance, Father Grigori, etc). My hope is if/when FM2 starts up again, we’ll see more of this since HL2 has way more NPCs.
