Free! was very popular on Tumblr back when it first aired. Heck, I even remember someone I went to High School with had an Iwatobi Swim Club backpack.

Man Free in general was an phenomenon in anime. Kyoani, a studio mostly known for making a show about cute girls doing cute things, shows the world a show about hot boys swimming. Of course tumblr would celebrate it for the aforementioned reasons. But 4chan? 9/11 over there. Obviously /a/ is no stranger to overreacting but it was still pretty funny. To see /a/utists squirm with rage over chinese cartoons.

I am STILL baffled how it so many people went into a downward spiral when Trump first took office. I just don't get how it turned seemingly evenminded people into raging lunatics willing to cut ties both online and offline that I would have respected.To me it all seemed to happen out of the blue with no rhyme or reason to my then normie mind.

My understanding of this phenomenon is that liberals can't handle losing at most things, for the past decades they went on a landslide of political victories and then trump decided to show up and ruin their plans, that's why the went apeshit upping their agenda to ridiculous levels

Don't forget that shitlibs in particular despise being proven wrong, too. The abortion """right""" (Roe v. Wade) rights being diminished (as I understood) is a perfect case. If someone were to do the smuggie soyjak and ask "But how does that affect (you) personally?" - you bet most would go apeshit. Even cunts with cool heads like HBomberHarris, LazerPig, ShortFatOtaku. The typical mindset of "I CANNOT BE SEEN OWNED! I CANNOT BE OWNED I MUST PUT THE SMUG MASK ON!!!". Especially with the third one.

This is more of an off topic, but to stay on topic: sometimes I wonder if this came for the best, with animation and the overall artistic world. I mean, it just set fire already a dying industry so it can start anew, the nutrients of these dead and rotten trees may give the soil of the "forest" some new lifeblood.

Toby discovered the series at a middle school age, so he would be close to a true OG back when the series only had 9 games in its arsenal. The devotion for Touhou runs deep with him, so deep that he played Necrofantasia, one of the songs in the 7th entry, on piano in his church's summer camp once.

Not a surprise. The underground was supposed to be the Underworld, and there are obvious Christian elements here and there, such as how Frisk has to be a super-Jesus who forgives everyone, even monsters who tried to repeatedly kill him after killing other children, to later on follow up with the goal to exterminate humanity.

Sorry for the double post but I forgot to mention another reason why Free was so popular on tumblr besides the fujobaiting. One year before the anime was ever announced, I believe there was some commercial for this show that I think was merely just an advertisement for the show that could be coming soon. tumblr got a little too ahead of the game and thought the advert was just for something else and not an entire show so most of them allegedly put up a whole damn petition to get the show to play. It's funny because they would've most likely made it anyway. I'm adding this in because I think it's an important part of the whole tumblr segment of thinking they have an influence and or power to most cultures/fandoms.

Honestly I had no clue what that Free Anime until now, had no idea what it was about since i'm guessing it didn't last too long and Tumblr quickly forgot about it once it stopped airing. I think the only time I heard about it was when I watched Jim's Hugbox Chronicles episode on the 4chan-Tumblr raids where the Tumblr bitches were crying about /b/tards raiding their site and I was like "why the fuck are they using the tag free what's that all about?"

I never understood all this fuzz about abortions, since as far as i understand they were wideley aviable since at least the late 50s due to eugenics and a desire to keep the black population numbers in check , it just so happens that it unintentionally had the effect of reducing crimerate in poor areas and giving white women the ability to avoid shotgun weddings

I liked the artsyle and the music of Undertale. I got the game for cheap and played it for the first time. Its not really my thing but I can see the appeal, personally I preferred the first RPG that addresses the player and their actions being harmful, all with the messy morale, horrific beings and much better music OFF.

That game is leagues better and no one ever talks about it, or that Undertale in some ways feels like its ripping off the French indie game.

It doesn't feel like. It is shamelessly ripping off this one and many others, making something original from the pile-up. Hell, the sound the barrier makes is Gygas' breathing from Mother2 with one bit removed as to not be blatantly plagiarizing!
By the way, not sure if it applies for this research so far, but the game Barkley from 2009 IIRC, is a good time-capsule of the Internet of that era. The sequel was also a Kickstarter victim that never delivered as well (which is a shame). One of the devs made Look Outside.

I think mostly everyone can agree that Undertale isn't a ripoff perse but a derivation of at least three decades of culture & the internet, the humor style & aesthetics come from Mother, the music & some game mechanics from Touhou, the moral mumbo jumbo from OFF and we could go on until we name every popular piece of media with a niche community of weirdos , Toby just knew how to put things together at the right time and cash in

OFF fans and anyone with sense hated it and called Toby an egotistical asshat, with quite a bit of general support. Undertale/Deltatroon's many grooming victims have rushed to his aid, but they have no good arguments and are really only reminding everyone to hate them.

This doesn't bode well for the next two chapters of his lesbian high school romance game set to release soon.
