Hold up, I haven't been able to follow this for some time (listening to today's MATI RN), but from what I remember, wasn't there some controversy where the amount of cocaine that was found seemed like it was going to be over a threshold that would have made it a much more serious offense, but then it ended up being just under it? I think I remember that they found a little scale for weighing drugs. It's a small town, everyone knows one another. What if one of the cops, curious as to how fucked Rekieta was, weighed the coke, found that it was over the "Federal Pound Me In The Ass Prison" threshold and disappeared a bit of it, and something indicating that got caught on the bodycam footage? Call me a retard if someone has already proposed this (I've been cleaning medical devices for a GHA audit for the last two months, I haven't had the time to read this thread as fast as it moves), but given the weird response from the court, there's SOMETHING super fucky going on here.

the short of it is thus: the weight included containers (baggies) and other drugs that fell under different sentencing guidelines, and sentencing guidelines meant his chances of going to prison (not federal) were slim as this was his first offense

The field testing weight was enough for a second degree felony. But the trial weight ended up being third degree felony. This isn't at all unusual. Its why they always have the lab weight the drugs.

Nick was never facing federal charges and never going to federal prison. Under Minnesota sentencing guidelines he was always going to get about the same sentence which involves lengthy probation. There was no chance on those charges of him ever going to any prison.

And if there were positive evidence in the bodycam footage for Nick, his attorney wouldn't have been in court fighting to block the release of the bodycam footage.
