Captain Underpants: The Movie - Yes, you read that right.

Liking the animation style, so there's that. Also like how it's somewhat true to the plot of the first few stories too.

Though this is Dreamworks, so who knows what the final product will be like. For now, I'll just remain casually optimistic that they don't screw this up like they did with Boss Baby (granted, the very concept of that movie is a major problem, but that's another topic for another thread).

I'm sad that George and Harold are played by 30-something-year-olds and not actual kids, it's pretty distracting. But I am sold on Captain Underpants' voice now that I heard his "Tra la LAAAAA", it's exactly as I imagined it to be. The animation makes me think of Blue Sky's Peanuts Movie, though there's still subtle differences that undoubtedly make it DreamWorks. It looks more like it took Mr. Peabody & Sherman and changed up the art-style in that aspect.

If you ask me, I do think the movie's a few years too late to be made, but I'll still go see it because I have :optimistic: that bad and it was one of my favorite childhood book series. That "first epic movie" is a nice callback to the first book, but this is a movie, the subtitle is cringey af and wholly unnecessary. So unless they were planning on making a Netflix series off of this, they should've just kept it as Captain Underpants and it'd still drive the point home.

I feel like 2017 just isn't a good year for DreamWorks Animation (the last few years weren't good for the company either, but I was at least happy with their movies). Unless Boss Baby and/or Captain Underpants makes enough money--and the odds are against them this time--it's only going to further shorten their lifespan. I want them to at least survive long enough to finish HTTYD3 (in 2019 :c) and any other Kung Fu Panda films they may be making, but it's possible their journey is coming to an end. It's quite sad, honestly.

Well, at least we have the so-bad-it's-good animated music video that was hosted on Dav Pilkey's website years ago.

I feel like this movie will probably do ok financially just because the kids who grew up with the books will probably go see it even if it sucks balls

Who are the people talking and why are they so old?

My god, I LOVED the books when I was a kid. And this actually doesn't look half bad. Kinda weird that George and Harold don't really sound like kids, and it looks like the overall story is going to be different from how the books were, but I don't really mind.

Honestly, one of my favorite parts of the books were the crudely drawn comics George and Harold made that had their own chapter in every book. Those were a riot.

It actually looks like the stuff I used to grow up with as a kid. Those books were the shit.
I think the only thing really bugging me is that once again the kid characters are voiced by adults, which I find pretty distracting. But oh well. It seems colorful and energetic enough.

Never was a fan of Captain Underpants due to not being much of a reader. Still, this does look rather interesting to watch. Like anyone else has said, the voices for the two boys aren't that fitting since they sound better on teenagers or young adults.

I used to love the Captain Underpants books, and I'm pretty optimistic for this.
In all honesty, I don't mind adults voicing kids because most children simply aren't good actors.

I don't mean to be that guy, but it's so different from the book, though.

George and Harold didn't hypnotize Mr. Krupp because he was going to put them in seperate classes, they did it because he blackmailed them with a video tape, containing evidence that they sabotaged a football game. This concept just seems dumb and overdramatic.

Also, why do George and Harold sound like they're adults?

And did you guys know that Harold is gay? It's revealed in the last book.

inb4 this causes Internet sperg-war 24 over another character being gay
