Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

The cyberspace anime battles would likely be a tall order in live-action.
The cyberspace anime battles were honestly the worst par of the series. I can't believe I'm saying this but fucking Pinocchio 3000 handled the idea of a mental battle better.

For a show that's otherwise pretty creative and does its own thing I was dissapointed that all the battles boiled down to who can punch harder. For a show that spends like a fifth of an episode talking about Lambda calculus it seems weird that THIS is the part they got afraid that normies will get bored and leave. Even a shapeshifter duel would have been smarter.

Spiderverse used a mix of 2d, 3d, pop art, cgi, line art, they used 70 year old comic book drawing techniques, opting to not use any motion blurr in favour of motion smearing, animating different characters in different framerates to show stuff like experience and finesse, halftones, ben-day dots, they mixed matched various artstyles, from classic comics, to tv animation, noir, golden age comics, silver age comics, to anime to even looney tunes with different characters having different artstyles.

This is just bog standard plastic person 3D cgi with low framerate.
That's what happens when companies look at something and go "Oh, people liked this!" then try to lazily recreate it without any understanding of WHY people liked it, tale as old as time.

Everything about it looks AI-generated, including the script.

"ChatGPT, write me a animated Spider-Verse style film about a K-Pop group hunting demons!"

"Sure thing! 'K-Pop Demon Hunters': Act One."

I wanna see what chat gpt could come up with if it wasn't lobotomized into never saying anything non sanitized.

I'm not saying its gonna be good but it will certainly be more intresting than this.

If this AI shit's gonna be EVERYWHERE for who knows how long, I feel like they should at least have the courtesy to let us make it say slurs and write about sex.

Nigga you know damn well they will not let it say “hitler was right we need another holocaust” or anything of the sort. The kikes payment processers would never allow for such a thing.

Bullet Time follows the adventures of Bullet, an emotionally unstable Video Gaming Bull Terrier as he competes in the Battle Blast Online Gaming Tournament; with his close friends Time Traveler Todd and Kat they must defeat all the competition for a chance to meet the reigning champion “The One”.
“Happy to finally share a project that holds a lot of meaning to me,” Alcazar said in a statement. “Four years ago, this film was started, and at the same time, I lost my dog Bullet, who I still think about everyday. His memory kept me going as I made this animation. This experience instilled a stronger appreciation to all the talent and detail that goes into the cartoons we all grew to love.” He added, “The ’90s seemed like a golden era of cartoon inspiration, innovation, and love, and I wanted to go back to that feeling. The team behind this project are a mix of experienced talent from classics like ‘Ren & Stimpy,’ ‘Pee Wee’s Playhouse’ and ‘Big Adventure,’ and ‘Gumby’ to name a few. Plus, a combination of fresh new artists who were also inspired by the houses they built. Finishing this all completely hand drawn animation TV pilot as we turn towards the AI age feels a bit bitter sweet. Times do change but I hope the appreciation of hard work and passion doesn’t and that we will always find value in creation from skills and experience. Without it we are lost. … Without it things will lose all meaning.”
Music by Danny Elfman. Bob Jaques (“Ren and Stimpy,” “SpongeBob SquarePants”) serves as animation director, while voice actors include Eric Bauza, Luis Bordonada, David Firth, and Uly.

Sectaurs is a cool show. I wonder how much inspiration it took from Dunbine.
From the makers of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
I saw this on my YT recommends a few days ago. I ignored it because I thought it would be a cheap baby show, but it actually looks kind of good. Had they used a different animation style and removed the idol nonsense, I'm sure little girls would really like it.
They made the male Kpop stars demons that take your soul, you can't make this up.
That's not inaccurate
I think that's also them! Unless there's somehow two.

Any recs for other shows like this? Stop motion is so cool. I know about Lavender Castle and Little Robots and most of the car shows.

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Thunderbirds (from the same person behind Lavender Castle, Gerry Anderson). Also, an Australian stop-motion show called Plasmo

You can search the Soyuzmultfilm catalog. I don't know why exactly, but Russians loved stop-motion and made a ton of it. A lot of them were intended for international festivals as well, so carry translations or are intentionally speechless.

And of course, there is Peter and the Wolf, for every poor soul who has yet to see it:

Recently, I’ve been getting shorts from Star Vs. Never watched the show except for a couple of episodes, not really my cup of tea. I only know that it has one of the worst tv show endings ever. /co might say otherwise but is it even worth watching?

I'd say it is, but that might be me having different preferences from the hivemind. Apparently I'm not allowed to enjoy Steven Universe or She-Ra because they're SJW shows.

yeah that's what I'm thinking of

Captain Scarlet is cool but afaik it's not stop motion
also the CG reboot from the 00s is amazingly good considering how bad "remake, and now it's CG!" usually goes

It's fun and creative, just consider ending your watch after the Battle for Mewni arc. If I remember right after that was when it started to focus too much on shipping and certain characters started acting really OOC.

For me, Steven Universe falls into the category of "I said I liked it, I never said it was good". It has its charm, and back when it was still running it was a ton of fun to speculate with other fans about what would get revealed next, what new fusion we'd see next, etc. Future, for all its flaws, deserves at least some props for addressing the question of "what does a Chosen One do after the story ends, when he's fulfilled his destiny and nobody really needs him anymore?"

I don't know what you mean by "OOC". Also I really liked it when Star Vs got into shipping stuff - mostly. They still fucked up HARD in the resolutions.

I'm honestly shocked Future managed to exist at all. You'd think SU would be utterly cancelled with no hope of renewal after it managed to get a gay wedding in a children's show.
