at the end of the day you have to have a clearnet ip to reach your destination, but now youre just using someone's tor exit node to route to the site, so if youre a super asshole you can just click the kiwifarms link to get some exit node banned, then shuffle your tor routing to a new exit node, rinse and repeat.

The person originally complaining about the logo change on TCRF was pretty mild-mannered about disagreeing with it, he basically just said that he doesn't think a hobby wiki is the right place to bring in controversial social issues but didn't quite demand change or get uncivil. Xkeeper and his friends immediately reacted with intense vitriol and basically made an example out of killing and desecrating his account, which escalated from there into declaring war on any and all people who didn't fully side with him, even offsite visitors, which is an unprecedentedly severe reaction even by powertripping janny standards.

I'm not a fan of the pride movement or the forced flags but I would agree with you that it'd be dumb to have a meltdown just over a logo palette swap (which is admittedly quite subtle compared to other places that redesign entirely, if I didn't pay attention I'd think it was just randomly cycling hex values), I mean you gotta recognize that that sort of thing happens all the time now even if you don't like it and it'd be irrational to blow up over this particular instance. But that wasn't what happened—someone simply plainly expressed that they considered it distasteful, and the admin nuked him for it, then turned on absolutely random bystanders who weren't even involved.

People are dunking on you not because it's that unpopular to believe that alogging out over a logo is dumb, it's just that it misses the point of this particular situation, and they're just playing it up and having fun at your expense. Don't take it that seriously.

Using the compression* feature of HTTP, he doesn't have to send out gigabytes of data, only the compressed form, which the client's browser will decompress, leading to memory exhaustion. For the same reason, this isn't "DDoS"ing themselves, because it's probably even less data to send than an ordinary page.
