Undertale

Personally, I didn't mind Sans at first, but it's taken Toby so fucking long to get to the mystery at the core of the character combined with "haha, funny fakeout" that I've just stopped giving a fuck about him.
Like, sure, he's nihilistic because he knows about determination and whatever the fuck so he doesn't bother trying because he knows it will be reset.
But how the fuck does he know that?
Toby has taken so long to even start to give an answer that I don't really care anymore.
Undertale already answered his story its just in pieces.

Apparently he code has a variable for the secret boards called "Toriel" and it's set to true. Setting it to false turns the monster that copies your movements into a black deer.
What's that goat bitch hiding?
Maybe if you go back after beating the knight and do it instead of chasing afterr them, Toriel would be saved in this instance so maybe that affects it. I haven't seen anyone talk about this but it's very interesting that you need to freeze a bird who's blocking your way to finish the white cloak board.

It hardly answered anything, all of the "answers" just made more questions.
All we know is that he's aware of the timeline, aware of resets, is extremely strong thanks to breaking the rules of the world (to the point Flowey always got hardstopped by him) , and has a mystery room with stuff like "Don't Forget", "hand-writing" a strange machine, and a badge.
But we dont know the why for any of that.
We don't even know if he bled or if it was just ketchup, and it being ketchup would be a fucking bizarre place to put a gag considering that it's the darkest part of the route.

He's been an enigma who we barely know anything about for about a decade, now.

This whole thread...
...whoa.

There ar even 2 new mods that restore the censored scene. I attach them here.
(How d others actually mod the game?)
I very dislike slurs, bu that is just severa layers of clever.
...I am aware that I am saying this in the Kiwi Farms.
I have never really gotten why Sans was so popular. He's a nihilistic fat guy who keeps making vague threats towards you up until you stab his ass to death in genocide. His relationship with Toriel as a romantic thing feels extremely forced, and he is just a straight up dick in Deltarune.

Killing him is pretty much the only murder in Genocide I don't regret at all.
Me, he was no that funny. I dislike Papyrus' obliviousness, but Sans is ju stupid.
I feel that his popularity is essentially based on his extremely hard, fourth wall-breaking fight in the Genocide route, though I feel that many find him unironically or so-bad-it's-good funny. Sans dancing with Toriel in Chapter 4 is almost definitely a nod to the fan-pairing.

Only thing left is that you harm her (physically) because of her being caught dancing with Sans and Kris not approving of it and she becomes despicable of you and... wants to kill you? What do you mean by "turns your movements into a black deer"? Noelle's mother is white from what I see.
Yeah if you play shitty games from Europe there definitely won't be any homos around. I am sure there isn't a single tranny on the planet that likes Gothic.
Sorry to disappoint you man. Unless you label your game EXPLICITLY Christian and say "Sexual degenerates begone, this game is not for you, present or eventually in the future. You are not welcome and never will be. A White, Christian male made this and you will not partake in it" - even if it deals with issues spoken of our current moments, thus making you a potential "weirdo" in today's work environment, you will have "edgelords" who will troon out and will claim to like something. Remember that the likes of Lilith Lovett are a thing, and even those who claim to be for "White Unity/Solidary", but somehow are troons.

Sure there will be maybe some dumbfuck who will say "fuck it, I will play it anyway". But would it be as likely as a secular, "live and let live" game from the classic era? I have few doubts. Yet such developer must be ready to "resist the devil, and they will flee from him" (Not be a deviant, have a clean record so to speak), so said troons will have no ammo to humiliate said person.

Finished the new chapters, at least the normal routes, I know about the alternates but I'll take a break for a few days, if only so that Toby has time to patch in new stuff, something he did for Chapter 2 IIRC.

Chapter 3 is filler and it shows, and I don't like how the minigames can't be saved or anything and they're quite long. A hard save when you leave would be enough to prevent save-scumming. Chapter 4 is more interesting, but I'll be surprised if Chapter 5 does release next year. As for my opinion, everything that could be said has been said already.

I don't like Noelle since she's an annoying one-note thirsty girl and the game is clearly pushing a romance between Susie and Noe, as poor Kris is literally a non-entity.
I like how if you spend time in the closet scene, Kris looks down in shame/disgust and no longer focuses on attacking you once he learns about Noelle, his childhood friend, throwing him under the boss to score. Des and Kris may or may not have been close at some point.
That with Chapter 4's final scene makes me feel almost bad for him.
The Snowgrave route, if it's not retconned, will most certainly be part of the bad ending. I wonder where it goes from here. And yeah, that "loss of innocence" was symbolic, but I don't think Kris went that far in someone else's home, Noe would scream if he did the dirty and Susie was around, for not to mention Asgore and eventually her mom.

Lastly, I thought monsters don't bleed, that's why one asks you "how does it feel to be made of blood", but it seems Susie does. Is she a hybrid, or is that a reference to Sans bleeding once you cut him down?

He's talking about this video. To explain what it shows in other words, Toriel turn Dess(The Black Deer) into a Shadow Monster(The Knight)

Speaking of THE KNIGHT...

I got spoiled on that one too thanks to a mix of a friend mentioning the fight's intro, and 30 minute to several hour yt clickbait video essays pumping out shit as soon as release day somehow... Simulation's breaking down I guess.

Still, when I looked at the OST the theme fore the knight battle seemed familiar. I then realized why it did.

It's almost the fucking same for the base music beat thing. The Backing bit has a wartbly distorted version of the kirby's dreamland 3 overworld thing that was used in that other knight titled song toby fox did in the kirby soundfont. There is 100% kirby dark matter type inspiration thing going on here.

I think I'm starting to get an idea for what's going on with the shadow crystal bosses

This is all about freedom since why it's mentioned regularly when going these routes.
Jevil wanted freedom from what he learned and using the crystal, he ended up getting himself locked away with the false sense he was free
Spamton wanted freedom in the sense of being famous and having the money to do what he wanted, so he used the crystal and found himself to still be a puppet.
Gerson says that he found the crystal in his desk and saw no reason to ever use it. Perhaps the person was counting him not being happy with his death and wanting something more.
Then we get to the Roaring knight. It appears its Dess. Dess has stuff like military rations and survival tools in her room and Carol appears to be obsessed with preservation, so maybe Dess wanted freedom from her family.
We'll have to wait to the next chapter and if there's a shadow crystal boss, then we'll have a full set. Seam says he'll make us an item with a full set, but is the item going to be a boss? Will we get it in chapter 5 or 6?

Yeah, Kris' life really fucking sucks, Toby really wants to feel bad for him. Toriel totally obliterated the respect Susie had for her, it reminds me how Flowely was secretly responsible for helping take care of her in the text for the scrapped Undertale Alarm clock app. The fandom tends to have a rosy interpretation of her, but Toby chose to write her like that for a reason.
I don't expect the Snowgrave route to be retconned. Honestly this thread keeps blowing the whole rape allegory out of proportion, I decided to check other social media for once and it's mostly Knight talk compared to here and 4chan. Although I'm really curious where Toby is going with the whole thing.

You could argue Final Fantasy 6 is a "kid's game" and that has a woman imprisoned, tortured, abused, and attempting suicide. But those kinds of themes just washed over me when I played as a little guy. It didn't really stick.

If I were 8 years old and playing Deltarune and saw a rose falling in a cutscene I would not think or know the concept of rape unless I were on the internet where adults are screaming about it.
Yeah FF6 has those things in it and is also rated T for Teen by the ESRB. I don't think Toby means for Deltarune to be a game for children, which is what we're talking about here. Not to mention it has a more consistently dark presentation than Undertale. Save for the True Lab, which ends on a joke and everything turning alright in the end. Even if it's not a literal rape scene, Toby wrote a story where YOU the player force Kris to mentally violate Noelle, forcing a ring onto her finger in the dark world, and a thorn into her hand in the light world. In a way that's more visceral than the Genocide Route.

I'll be really hard to enjoy anything if you let the rainbow people get to your head
Literally. The one thing that I've learned over the past two years is that they've basically become inescapable in anything popular, and that's just one of those things that you gotta learn to ignore. I don't think the dyke-y relationship between Susie and Noelle is any different than Undyne and Alphys' relationship in Undertale. Then again, I'm exclusively doing Snowgrave and I'm not gonna let her waste time with anybody else, but still. Deltarune doesn't feel any more LGBT than Undertale.

I was being facetious. My point is that if you like anything ever you're bound to be sharing a space with a homo or a troon at some point. Eurojank slop games aren't immune to this and if they are it's purely because they have zero relevancy.

I think for that scene Toby was going after the same effect Mother 3 had with the "crossdresser fairy seemingly abusing Lucas" one. It was for shock value, but while back then the scene was played for laughs and recognized as such*, we can't have that in Current Year with Eternally Sensitive Folx always eager to shrill at anything. Toby shouldn't have edited that part out, but enough has been said about this. By the way, the background music of the backspace of chapter 3 has likely another robbery sample from Earthbound: That sound that shows up in certain scenes like the start of the game, when you go out to look for that meteorite.

*Once again, I can't help but laugh and feel sad that this scene is a good indicator to how society has fallen, as now that scene is mostly seen as transphobia or whatever, and no-one seems to care that the Magypsies weren't humans, nor trannies nor crossdressers, just pretending to be so for fun.

They just look like that, it's not really crossdressing it's literally just how they look IIRC. That scene in particular is explicitly just lucas being held underwater with the phrases spoken sounding creepy for the sake of comedic effect, soemthing that's never really left media. I wonder if the current year eternal types have the same kind of schizo theories about mother characters looking the way they do like they did for spamton a few years ago.

He's literally got royalty free version of earthbound's threed interior/shady house music track in the OST. I don't know if that's the one you're talking about since I haven't played yet, but I remember the cave/meteor noises were used in this and undertale's soundtrack at some point.

There's also the theme to the dark world from link to the past... mixed with tal tal heights kinda.
