It's a terrible novel. I own it. The main character is a seven year old who somehow has the observational and narrative voice of an adult, and it comes across like some urban middle class New Mexican Hispano's idealization of rural working class New Mexican Hispano culture, all written in a terrible half-baked approximation of the Latin-American "Magic Realism" style.
this isn't relevant to mass immigration, but it is still questionable because it might attract international criminals trying to get US citizenship as a shield against being extradited, to escape criminal prosecution in other countries.
