A lot of the problems here stem from centralization. TCRF talks to Hidden Palace, who talks to Frank Cifaldi/The Video Game History Foundation. And Frank is a can of worms in of himself who has a lot of skeletons in his closet. A lot of these LGBT-adjacent groups network with each other, collaborate with each other, and that's how you get troons to operate in such high spaces, and how people like SnapCube are able to be protected from scrutiny.

Even a 'huge burst' should not be noticeable, unless you're glued to the nginx log 24/7 (guess he is). The logged-out view of every page should be fucking cached. Even if you get hit by the Wayback Machine with all of it's might, that shit should not even fucking touch the database. Don't want the bots to scrape the edit history or whatever? Disallow them from accessing just those pages with robots.txt. Don't want 'clowns' putting strain on your infrastructure? Publish a publicly available torrent with an export of the whole thing. People want to have a backup in case the next step in epically owning the stalkers is to delete the whole site. Those fucking assholes who want to destroy your life's work by... having a backup of it?? huh

All the issues he brings up are not a fucking factor in 2025. Servers aren't 1GHz with 256MB memory anymore. I'd wager that for the patreon money he could easily get a server that could keep the current version of the wiki completely in memory and a separate CDN for the pictures. He could work with the evil outsiders and make getting a backup easy. It's possible to not respect the people running the wiki but still see the value in their work and cherish that. If you hate them so much and they hate you too, why require them to ask you for the archive in the first place?
