The thread had around 400 replies, and the level of indie slop is staggering compared to new games. We have seen a revival of CRPGs and literal RPG maker games that would have never survived the "normie" base, that should say something.
You are on dog food , about every game that is released and had major traction towards it are sequels or remakes. When one say gaming is dead, it is a direct reference to creativity and utter lack of original IPs that often left a mark either as mediocre game but with soul or straight up classic that will be remembered for years to come. Nowadays a game comes, everyone praises it to high heavens and the whole "fanbase" die out like an aids infested village in Africa. Its now becoming hollywoodish with ton of devs trying to launch themselves through shitty tv shows like fallout, halo, cyberpunk...

If you went on /v/ for more than 2 years, which I doubt most of this thread has, yeah it's a good indication of what people play. It's always been like this, what you call "indie slop" has always been around(read: anything that a mainstream normalfag gamer hasn't heard of because it isn't a AAA game). There was always a good mix of old/new/obscure and fanmade.
Again, nobody gives a shit about new releases except for people who unironically consume this slop with a smile on their face(or pretend to hate it like Coby does). Actual gamers just play games and move on. There is enough games on my own personal backlog alone that I doubt I will ever try every single one of these before I die, so why would I care that there is no good new AAA titles? Let the gaming industry rot, I don't give a shit. I don't need it.

The Switch 2 pulled the trigger on every single bad practice we fought against during the initial Xbone release and people ate that shit up and everything I see online is about how good the console is and they're really enjoying it and it was basically just proof to me that the only time I'll be buying another console of any kind is if it's dirt cheap or my son needs something to play. I'm just going to quadruple down on PC gaming and emulation going forward, because there's fucking nothing of worth coming from the big 3 anymore.
What genres do you count as "real games"? Can one of the "gaming is dead" people offer up what they'd prefer to exist in the place of "indie slop"? Looking through that 4chan thread, I saw the most normal distribution of games imaginable. FPS's, WRPGs and JRPGs, MOBAs, singleplayer and multiplayer, racing games, strategy games, stealth games, fighting games, etc. You can't just say that gaming is dying because everyone's not playing the exact same types of games as you.
Yes, the biggest studios in the industry are going to play it safe, this is just what happens. Bigger budgets means less risk-taking, but on the flip side, with lower budgets means higher risk-taking. You will be forever miserable if you only pay attention to the AAA space. Your non-mainstream tastes will never be satisfied by the mainstream. Just because you personally don't like the direction the industry is heading genre-wise doesn't mean there's a widespread lack of creativity. I'm reminded of how Synth during the Game Awards wrote off Balatro, one of the most creative games in recent memory that birthed a whole subgenre. Having preferences is fine, but for Synth and people similar their personal niche preferences get in the way of them being able to make objective judgements.
Genuinely. It's infuriating how what are essentially just failed normies assume this position of authority on gaming. They are exactly like Harry Potter fans who claim that literature/reading is dead because there hasn't been a worldwide phenomenon like it since. They refuse to just... play a different game like HP fans refuse to just read another book. If you only consume what's fed to you by industry showcases you never liked gaming anyway. This is not a worldview that can withstand a cursory search on Steampeek, SteamDB, or even the NextFest.
