A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This mindset that there's some intrinsic "good/bad" independent of what you actually do is just classism. There's a certain sort of person for whom lack of confrontation is their overriding goal in life. Conflict-avoidance is their most basic instinct. To the point that they will lie, suppress, oppress and take any measure to preserve the veneer of social cohesion. They're mad and I see a line of them right there. It's my biggest issue with RadFems in that they think it's some vast patriarchal conspiracy. Rather than troons and rape gangs being largely the result of preventing men from dealing with the issue. Any group of lads would be happy enough to remove a pervert from the women's toilets if the women didn't tell them not to. And if I recall it was the female Home Secretary way back who was sending down the orders from on high not to investigate these gangs.

Why would it take 8.99 months to figure out if you want to keep a kid or not? With that type of delay in decision making, both the child and the mother should be terminated, in Terminator.

Maybe it's to allow for NHS waiting times.

It wouldn’t take 9m. Most late abortions in the uk are for things found at or after the 20 week anatomy scan. These are almost all wanted babies where the parents find something catastrophic and mainly incompatible with life or that would cause severe suffering and disability or damage to the mother. The late abortions we have now are the very sad cases, the sort of thing even many opponents of abortion might see as ‘well, in that case…’
There is no moral case for abortion on demand up to birth. The abortion laws we have now are a compromise and they’re fairly uncontroversial. They allow access to abortion in the early stages and frankly if anything we should be looking at bringing it in a little not expanding it as neonatal and premie care gets better.
There is a massive difference between a scan at 20 weeks showing no brain, and ‘oh I changed my mind’ at 39 weeks. These former is a terrible loss, the latter is murder.
There is NO medical OR moral case for these bills. British women are NOT denied abortions under existing law.

I grew up in an area that went from white to paki in 10 years. One of my neighbours was Sikh. They hate the pakis and the muslims and they hate that the coppers let them piss the locals off because people see brown = bad and take it out his kind.
Talking to him, he wanted to kill all pakis and muslims, and was open about it. He loved Britain and knew it had been good to him and his family and they were good people. Very clean, generous, community people. I felt for him and his family for the stick they got, but he understood why it happened and didn't blame the locals, but the pakis for making him look bad.

It's not going to stop. This report will change nothing and, as much as I hate the pakis, I hope it continues. I hope the country is flooded with more and more muslims and rapists. Not because I hate britain, but for me, the damage is done. My home town is now islamabad and stinks. The local churches knocked down and replaced with mosques. The locals left long ago and have been replaced. The kids of my age and social class were attacked, bullied, robbed and raped by pakis.
Decades of complaining, notifying and noticing went ignored, at best, and at worst, punished by those we asked for help.
This report hasn't come out because of some political reason to silence the plebs, it's because the very people who were seen as a working-class, racist, boogeyman, are now encroaching on the middle and upper class spaces.

For me, I want it to accelerate and continue. I want those who called me, my friends and my family racist, thick northerners to suffer. I want their posh areas ruined and filled with shit, dead chickens and loose goats. I want them to see what happens when millions move into a county or city, unchecked. I want them to ask for help and to be ignored, just like us. Not because I'm bitter or twisted, but because their suffering would be the justice that I, and even more, those girls who got raped, deserve.

First they came for the working class, and they said nothing because they weren't one.
Then they came for the council estate kids, and they said nothing, because their kids weren't.
Now they come for the upper class, and there's no-one left to speak out because we no longer give a fuck.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of abortion if im honest. It’s always killing but I also understand that horrible suffering is a lot to ask of someone, and so in some cases that killing may be acceptable. The law already allows for this. If the unthinkable happens and you get a shock from your 20 week scan then it is possible to abort, and ALL cases where the health of the mother is on the line would also be allowed.
You’re asked, if you’re high risk, if it comes down to it and it’s you or them what are your wishes as well (fairly subtly and gently I must say.)
What these bills want is abortion on demand, for no reason up to birth, and I cannot support that. It is simply murder. On demand now I think is up to 18 or so weeks (20? I don’t know) but it’s well after the initial scans.

Apparently under the new abortion rules it will still be illegal for doctors to perform abortions after 24 weeks
This will however incentivize women to have dangerous abortions, the very thing they blame right wingers for doing.

How the fuck can that happen and be a surprise? I saw the brain developing at the private scan I went to at what, 11 weeks. Went for another private scan at around 18 weeks and I could see the whole ass face.

I don't think I've ever met someone who said they were racist, or didn't say it but were, who didn't have some special case exceptions. At minimum on the individual basis and usually on the race basis too. Someone on this thread (I forget who) said something like "Japanese people are honorary White" (might have been the poster above me in fact but I honestly don't recall).

Sikhs fought like tigers on behalf of the British Empire. And for what little it's worth the ones I've known I got on with pretty well. I don't know much about the religion other than it requires them to carry a knife in case of muslims.

About this abortion, I looked up the bill and the amendment because everyone has their agenda. My first reaction is why is it so epically long and rolling in so many disparate things? Blatantly an attempt to hide items and force things through. But I found the parts about abortion and it seems to be as described. Decriminalises any abortions in which the mother agrees to it. Wholesale so far as I could see. I reluctantly support an abortion if there's real danger to the mother's health. And I don't just mean in the usual sense of every pregnancy has risks. And I also don't care if someone takes the 'morning after' pill because my objections aren't based on some religious belief or edict. But I am opposed to it outside of these exceptions.

I abhor Stella Creasy. I recall a debate she had with some woman who worked in business / economics who got Ms. Creasy increasingly worked up by just being persistently reasonable at her and female (which undermined her usual patriarchy schtick). Indeed. The obvious solution over the moral quandary is to just call killing babies what it is, and accept that killing babies, as nasty a thought that it is, is something that is necessary sometimes actually. That would require honesty however and will never ever happen.
I don't actually have any problem with on demand abortion; everyone knows how to make more humans it's no real loss, and if a "mother" wants to kill her spawn she's not the sort of person who has any business raising one anyway, she shouldn't get to do it oh so righteously though the "my choice" shit is cringe and is what happens when there's a deficit of shame in wider society.

I'm a racial chauvinist in the Mosley sense in that as well as wanting the best for my race I want the best for other races, so long as they aren't fucking with mine or my homelands. But that is what they are doing so and that means the sympathy well has run dry. They need to fuck right off.
