UAE: The Situation in the Region Necessitates Coordinated Regional and International Action to Halt Escalation
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed: There is no alternative to political and diplomatic solutions... The United Nations and the Security Council must fulfill their responsibilities and take urgent and necessary measures to halt the fighting and establish international peace and security. The United Arab Emirates affirmed that the military escalation unfolding in the region necessitates urgent and coordinated action at both regional and international levels to avoid the risks of expanding the conflict and to contain its repercussions on peace and security in the region and globally. His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that the UAE—having condemned the Israeli military targeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the very beginning—now, five days into this dangerous military confrontation, sees the urgent need for a diplomatic approach that leads both parties toward de-escalation and an end to the confrontation, preventing it from slipping into undesirable and dangerous paths. His Highness warned of the dangers of reckless and ill-considered actions that could exceed the borders of both countries, stressing the need for swift movement toward a clear goal: the immediate cessation of hostilities before matters spiral out of control. His Highness explained that His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (may God preserve him), has undertaken intensive diplomatic communications focused on ways to strengthen efforts to de-escalate and avoid further expansion of the conflict, based on a commitment to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path—away from confrontation and escalation—and on a comprehensive foundation that ensures stability, prosperity, and justice for the peoples of the region.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed pointed out that the UAE, at this critical and dangerous juncture, stresses that the region—which represents the heart of the world and has been exhausted by ongoing conflicts and can no longer bear further tensions and confrontations—needs wisdom today more than ever before. He added: “The UAE believes that strengthening dialogue, adhering to international law, and respecting the sovereignty of states are the best foundations for resolving current crises. The UAE urges the United Nations and the Security Council to fully assume their responsibilities in preventing further escalation and to take the urgent and necessary measures to halt the fighting and establish international peace and security.”
