SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco police have made an arrest in a vandalism case involving the Pink Triangle atop Twin Peaks.

Symbol of Pride vandalized

What we know:
Police said in a post on social media that on Tuesday at around 12:30 p.m., their officers responded to Christmas Tree Point Road where the Pink Triangle, a reclaimed symbol of LGBTQ+ resistance and resilience, sits. That's when officers with SFPD said they actively saw a man defacing the Pink Triangle memorial art installation.

Police chased the suspect on foot and were able to detain him without further incident, they said.

19-year-old Lester Bamacajeronimo, of San Francisco, was arrested.

Police said they seized tools used in the vandalism as evidence. They did not say what those tools were.

Charges against the suspect are pending.

Police said vandalism in the city is unacceptable and condemned the act.

"San Francisco's Pink Triangle is a powerful symbol of our city's commitment to supporting LGBT rights and commemorates the victims of the past. We stand united with our LGBT community this month and every month as we continue the fight for equality," the department wrote in their post on X.

The Pink Triangle was installed by more than 800 volunteers during the first weekend of Pride month. Some volunteers mark their Pride month by volunteering to install the symbolic Pride landmark.

‘Hateful act’
What they're saying:

Mayor Daniel Lurie posted to social media to condemn the vandalism.

"This hateful act of vandalism does not reflect San Francisco's values and will not be tolerated," Lurie said. He thanked SFPD for responding quickly and for making the arrest.

SkyFOX flew over the Pink Triangle but did not see any noticeable damage from that vantage point.

The pink triangle, once used by the Nazis to mark people as homosexual, has since been reclaimed by the LGBTQ community as a symbol of remembrance, resistance, and unity.

The installation consists of 175 bright pink tarps and is roughly an acre in size.

This year marks the 30th year the Pride symbol has sat atop of Twin Peaks. The display will remain on Twin Peaks through the end of June.

Bet the SFPD would move as slowly as molasses if that was a patriotic display.

Can't see how people live in SF. Congested, crowded, noisy as fuck. Went up there in May. Was in a good area but couldn't wait to get the fuck out of town.

was reputed to be a nazi thing,
"was reputed to be" :story:
Motherfucker it was literally what they did to em in the camps!

No, but they got it from the same place, the Germans in the 30s and 40s used it to mark known homosexuals and they’re just “reclaiming” it for gay pride while the site uses it to designate faggots regardless of sexuality.
it's a similar thing with who the nazi party deemed as "not white enough" now trying to get anti-white points, jews being the biggest one but there's occasional other pasty skinned non-jews in the corpo activism class pulling the same white when convenient card.

We've been in a special hell the last decade where if you don't like actual nazi germany era classifications and symbology being used even as a "positive" you get marked as a nazi. It's very fake and gay.

He should play stupid, and claim he wasn't vandalizing anything and was destroying a nazi symbol he thought was put up there by nazi trump supporters who hate gays. If anyone presses him on it just point out that pink triangles are a nazi symbol used in the camps to designate gay prisoners and he refused to tolerate a bigot nazi symbol painted up there to demonize the gay community of san francisco, then accuse the DA and cops of supporting and protecting nazis for arresting him over it

It would be quite the shitshow if he played it right

people have done similar things and still been called bigots or nazis. Usually it's calling jews white that gets you that though.

I'm sad they didn't have a category for "nigger".
Because "niggers" weren't really a problem in the German Reich. Most African or mixed race people were either foreigners or considered resident aliens or stateless under the Nuremberg Laws which also exempted them from things like the draft (meaning their survival rate was actually very high). The ones that ended up in the camps usually did so for (repeated) race mixing or being communists.
