That's a big part of why I stay away from nerd fandoms. There's a very, very select few people who enjoy something childish in spite of what it is. They're well aware it's beneath them maturity-wise. They understand it's a guilty pleasure of sorts, and they tend to keep their interest to themselves while living mostly functional lives. But for the most part, those fandoms attract people who like it because their mental age more closely matches the demographic it's aimed at. Bronies, weebs, cartoon-tubers, and ninten-fags are the worst for this. They talk like kids, think like kids, and have the emotional regulation of kids. Being an adult and trying to have a conversation with those people makes you feel like a creepy old dude talking to kids outside the local high-school.
It's still something I really don't understand. I'm autistic as fuck but watch literally zero cartoons except shit like Beavis and Butt-Head and other similar stuff that doesn't event count. I don't know any adults who do besides maybe anime shit which is intended for mature audiences.
