Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

Perhaps I am a bitter, envious person - but I still cannot get over how this formula got popular. After Undertale, I think, almost every indie game was exactly that - badly drawn pixel RPG about feewings, just like UD itself. I think it took some time for a non-RPG Indie project (That wasn't Fez; But it was talked about negatively) to be discussed in the mainstream until 2019-2020
A: Non-RPG indie games had been en vogue for ages before UNDERTALE came out.
Cave Story, Braid, Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Bit Trip (which had worse graphics and a wankier story), La Mulana, Spelunky, Minecraft (before M$ bought it), Terraria, VVVVVV, Hotline Miami, Bastion, Shovel Knight, Skullgirls and a bajillion Iphone games before someone discovered freemium.

B: There were tons of big indie hits that weren't "quirky pixel RPGs" between UNDERTALE's release and 2020
Enter the Gungeon, Cuphead (arguably indie but had to get a loan from Microsoft), Celeste (awful and astroturfed), Getting Over It, A Hat in Time (possibly the most unremarkable collectathon that I've ever played), Return of the Obra Dinn, My Friend Pedro, Slime Rancher, Baba is You, Slay the Spire, Darkest Dungeon, Disco Esylum and like a billion 2d Dark Souls wannabes. (And that's intentionally trying to omit fucking garbage like Night in the Woods and Gris)

C: I know that "quirky indie RPG" is essentially the platonic ideal of an obnoxious indie game but there aren't actually that many of them?
UNDERTALE, Knuckle Sandwich, Everhood, Athenian Rhapsody, Heartbound, YIIK, Crosscode, SLARPG, Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, Heartbeat, OMORI, Barkley 2 (dead), Suits: A Business RPG.
Certainly far less than the early 2010's "quirky pixel platformer about reddit and lesbians" explosion.
You could certainly bump up the numbers with the deluge of free RPG Maker stuff ...but, does that count?
Those were always a thing, long before UNDERTALE and they'll exist long after DELTARUNE ends.

My point was that the specifics of Undertale were adopted by indie creators, even if they were not making RPG's (Generally relating to design and themes). I probably should've worded my complaint as: "There was more incentive for cookie-cutter pixel indie games after UD's success". Other points you made are more substantial than mine, I agree.

Does this count? I haven't played it.
Schedule I was very obviously giga-astroturfed by the industry. It was the only game anyone talked about for like a week and then everybody stopped talking about it entirely because the marketing shekels dried up and the target audience didn't actually give a shit. Not indie, it's at minimum A or, given how big the marketing budget seems to have been, AA.

People stopped talking about it because it's not a terribly big game and there's only so much you can do in it. Same thing happened with Valheim, and plenty of other games that are early access indies.

Reminder to take back retro games and "Y2K" shit and make it racist. Both of those things are cool and we shouldn't have to deal with troons taking it for themselves. The year of the Chud is upon us and it's time to enjoy cool things again.
Even late 2000s stuff like pic related still had some "le problematic" stuff in it back then, I completely understand why they won't do the things they did back then, but at the end of the day, No troon who cares enough is gonna buy your shit.

Funny new development: Xigger libtards are mad at Troonjeet 🄰 because his publisher is a celebrity zionist

H-HARMONY KORINE?? THE GUMMO FAG IS IN VIDYA NOW??
I would’ve never expected to see this name behind a video game company. This guy’s a fucking weird uncomfortable director that makes fucking weird uncomfortable movies and won’t state the birth year of but will state the year of marriage to his suspiciously younger wife. This game stinks even worse with just his name rather than any IDF connections.

Don't most of those games get popular unorganically? Mostly when the quality doesn't match the given praise; Because there were pretty good indie-games deserving their praise, aside from all else.
I blame Youtube/TikTok. Some schmuck makes a video on a second-rate indie game and their child viewerbase pushes it to the top of Steam for a couple weeks. Schedule 1 is 100% an example of this. It even looks like Roblox.

Agree, I've observed the same thing. A few cases stuck out to me - like Baldi's Basics - which had tons of videos made on it, but then the hype wave died just as quickly half a year later.

I still can't believe that someone made their own guro mascot horror based on a Baldi fan song.
The worst part is that it's really well animated.

And then unlists it because xhe couldn't handle the fame, GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEG
ANOTHER FUNDAMENTAL L, GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEG :lit: :lit:

Astroturf is the default marketing strategy online, its more obvious for flash in the pan streamerbait games but everyone does it.
It's a stretch to say it's 100% astroturfed because the themes of the games or the aesthetics (space lesbians like it was made for Andrew Dobson for one) attract a certain demographic.

Doom is a slow game, did all the pornography format their brains and make them forget?
Spotted the guy who doesn't have Always Run enabled in GZDoom!

Also, no, it's still noticeably fast - especially compared to most anything that came after Half-Life. People used to play Doom like it's a janky-ass horror game: keyboard only with arms crossed and barely touching the Shift key, - in contrast to how John Romero played Doom even for attract mode demos.

Then again, quite a few boom shoots nowadays are faster than Quake III Arena, even.

Related + thread tax: fuck Selaco's dev.
This message will probably get relevant in a couple years when he does troon out.

Most Y2K and earlier stuff is quiet provocative or offensive already - that's why most of the "Fans" of those games today seem to be detached from the canonical plots and ideas of those games. You know that feeling when you ask yourself: "Are we playing the same game?", as you see another person go on about the game you like? That's what interacting with those people feels like. Check the Postal or Doom Community to subject yourself to that cancer, if you wish so.

I feel like it goes double for Doom, because it attracts both the hedonistic faggots and progsocks faggots alike. Otherwise, same rules and the same pipeline apply.

Here's your friendly reminder that Julian Nechayevskiy forked Chocolate Doom to create a much jankier version of it, Russian Doom - and then Julian trooned out, and then his home country invaded Ukraine, and the freshly-baked troon decided to rename that to International Doom. Despite the only available languages still being English and Russian. GZDoom is deadass more international than "International" Doom.

And yeah, Postal... I feel like despite it still being consistently jank, Running With Scissors themselves have actively contributed to the series being less edgy, and more plain dumb. Like, pajeets are basically the staple of Postal 2, but I deadass don't remember the last time I've seen the troon model in that game.
